Job type Full Time Structural Steel Material Expeditor Decatur, AL | Fabrication Company | $20.00 - $25.00 per hour | 1st Shift | Overtime Required at Times The Structural Steel Material Expeditor is responsible for tracking, organizing, and moving structural steel materials throughout the yard or shop to support production and loadout activities. This role helps ensure parts are properly identified, staged, and ready for shipment while maintaining a safe, efficient work area. Key Responsibilities Track and identify structural steel parts, assemblies, and materials to ensure accuracy for production and shipment. Understand part numbers, tags, and job-specific material requirements. Operate forklifts to safely load and unload flatbed trucks. Stage material for loadout in a way that supports safe handling, shipping efficiency, and customer requirements. Inspect materials before loading and unloading to verify condition and completeness. Coordinate with shop, yard, and shipping personnel to prioritize loadout schedules and material movement. Maintain an organized yard, staging area, and loading zones. Follow company safety procedures, forklift operating standards, and load securement practices. Assist with inventory checks and report missing, damaged, or incorrectly staged materials. Required Skills and Qualifications Experience working with structural steel parts, fabrication materials, or heavy industrial products preferred. Strong understanding of how to track, sort, and organize structural steel components. Forklift operating experience required; certification preferred if applicable. Ability to load and unload flatbed trucks safely and efficiently. Knowledge of staging techniques for loadout and material flow. Ability to read tags, shipping information, and basic production or load lists. Good communication and teamwork skills. Attention to detail and commitment to safety. Ability to work in an active shop or outdoor yard environment. Physical Requirements and Work Environment This position requires regular standing, walking, bending, lifting, and operating material-handling equipment. Work may be performed in a fabrication shop, yard, or outdoor environment in varying weather conditions. Candidates must be able to work safely around heavy steel materials, moving equipment, and truck traffic. Compensation Pay range for this position is $20.00 to $25.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
