Job Description Summary The Associate Dean (Associate Dean for Curriculum, Scheduling, and Student Affairs) is a 12-month administrative position, holding associate professor or professor rank with tenure. The Associate Dean reports directly to the Dean and, in consultation with the Associate Dean (Faculty Affairs, Effectiveness, and Research), provides leadership in the Dean's absence. This position can teach one course per semester in his/her/their discipline and maintain an active scholarly agenda. This position provides administrative and operational support for curriculum, academic planning, and student affair. Key operations include catalog review, curricular updates, oversight of academic scheduling, coordinating department and program schedule changes, and monitoring course distribution, and course assignments. Provide leadership for discipline-specific student performance scholarships process and Dean's Awards, student grievances, and liaises with department and program chairs as well as constituencies across the university (e.g. Registrar's Office, ROC, ULV Online, etc.) in relation to the purview of the role. Act as ex-officio on CAS Curriculum, Committee, UGAP Committee, and GE Committee. Minimum Qualifications A history of effective leadership in a culture of shared governance. Experience in strategic planning and an ability to work collaboratively with faculty and academic leaders to identify the academic priorities of the College and develop strategies and tactics for achieving them. Preferred Qualifications Most important, is an ability to separate and understand the differences between serving in the capacity as an academic administrator (Associate Dean) and relinquishing faculty perspective when representing the Dean's Office or making objective decisions. Employees are expected to spend extended periods of time working at a desk, using a computer, and engaging in routine office tasks such as emailing, attending m Duties Specific Duties Work collaboratively with the Associate Dean and CAS Department and/or Program Chairs on academic scheduling, course load assignments, reduction of low enrolled courses and assist with course loads, curriculum changes, and instructional record keeping. Percentage Of Time 20% Specific Duties Work collaboratively with the Dean, Registrar's Office, and Provost's Office to provide leadership in academic scheduling processes, policies, and procedures, assist with monitoring course enrollment and faculty course assignments. Percentage Of Time 10% Specific Duties Policy and governance: Be responsible for the oversight in student grievances, curriculum and scheduling adjustments for compliance with university's policies and procedures; Assist chairs and faculty with issues associated with course scheduling and instruction. Percentage Of Time 10% Specific Duties Work with CAS departments and programs, and Registrar's Office to ensure annual catalog review and curriculum updates; reporting and implementation of CAS curriculum changes and cancellation. Percentage Of Time 5% Specific Duties Provide leadership for academic scheduling for diverse course distribution (e.g. FLEX, TUG, and Graduate courses); monitor room assignment and conduct schedule review and reporting for low enrollment. Act as a liaison to and Ex-Officio member on CAS Curriculum Committee, UGAP Committee, and GE Committee. Percentage Of Time 5% Specific Duties Plan, develop timelines for, and manage college-wide performance scholarships and Dean's Awards. Percentage Of Time 10% Specific Duties Provide leadership for CAS Student Grievance process; address student complaints; provide support to address student-faculty conflicts. Percentage Of Time 10% Specific Duties Coordinate College planning and efforts regarding student success and advising.
