The Surgery Scheduling Coordinator is responsible for scheduling patient surgeries/procedures. He/she utilizes the EMR and/or scheduling system to access and enter patient data as needed. They are responsible for verifying insurance eligibility and obtaining authorizations and pre-certification as needed for procedures. The scheduling coordinator is responsible for ensuring that patients charts are prepared prior to surgery which may include, but not limited to, imaging and pertinent lab work. He/she will also arrange for any special equipment and/or vendor support needed for the surgery/procedure and ensure that patients obtain a post-hospital follow-up appointment. They will also maintain the master surgery calendar for physicians. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Duties:
1. Adheres to protecting patient confidentiality 2. Promotes a professional business atmosphere utilizing the business computer communication systems. 3. Interacts with others in a positive, non-judgmental manner, managing conflict constructively avoiding escalating negative situations. 4. Ensures that all appointments are registered appropriately in the scheduling system, including patient registration, referring physician, patient and insurance information and any other information needed. 5. Verifies insurance and obtains authorization for surgery or procedures as indicated. 6. Communicates all changes with patient and surgical case information to all involved personnel. 7. Demonstrates flexibility, self-direction, accuracy and problem-solving skills in daily activity. 8. Analyze/plans/prioritizes workload anticipating conflicts. 9. Demonstrates flexibility in covering others for sick time, vacation, leave of absence or requested day off. 10. Participates in additional projects and assignments as requested. 11. Contributes to a positive departmental morale. 12. Works positively with colleagues to create an effective, efficient workplace dedicated to customer service and quality patient care. 13. Maintains accurate master surgery calendar for physician(s). 14. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Req High school or equivalent Req 1 year Minimum 1-year scheduling coordinator experience preferably in a health care or clinical setting. Req Excellent customer service skills. Req Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Req Ability to understand medical/surgery terminology. Req Ability to work independently and with other team members and departments.
Preferred Qualifications:
Pref Demonstrated knowledge and experience in non-invasive and/ or invasive cardiology testing procedures.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only) The hourly rate range for this position is $22.00
