The Surgery Scheduler must be able to respond to both written and oral correspondence regarding scheduling changes/ cancellations in a timely, accurate manner. Individual must be organized, and be able to manage a demanding workload with accuracy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Schedules office and hospital based medical procedures for patients with appropriate Provider and time/location slot, utilizing appropriate scheduling. Responsible for obtaining insurance authorization for surgical procedures and communicating authorization status with patient and the hospital. Notifies insurances of any rescheduled surgery dates. Checks all surgery/procedure paperwork for accurate surgery dates and enters notes/special instructions needed for scheduling in the electronic medical record. Scans documentation into patients' electronic medical records. Completes pre-procedure phone calls and confirms appointment times with patient. Takes appropriate action in responding to questions from patients. Provides accurate, detailed information to patients regarding test preparations, time of patients scheduled arrival, and any other directional information needed. Documents any and all conversations with patients, insurance companies, and physicians in EMR Other duties may be assigned. EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE
The employee performing this position is expected to hold a High school diploma or general education degree ("GED"); and at least three months (preferably six months) related experience (e.g., health care setting, customer service, etc.) and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. The employee performing this position is expected to have some experience with medical terminology and understanding of medical insurance process. S/he must be able to understand or quickly learn about the differences between and among patients with private insurance, Medicare, Workers' Compensation and self-paying patients, etc. Bilingual in Spanish.
