Job Description

Surgery Scheduler / Authorization Coordinator Santa Monica, CA 90404 Monday-Friday | 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM $24.00 per hour We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Surgery Scheduler / Authorization Coordinator to join a busy specialty medical practice in Santa Monica. The ideal candidate will have strong experience coordinating surgical procedures, obtaining insurance authorizations, and supporting patients throughout the surgical process. ⚠ Previous surgery/procedure scheduling and insurance authorization experience is REQUIRED and must be clearly reflected on the resume.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate and schedule surgical procedures, including pre-op and post-op appointments Verify insurance coverage and obtain surgery/procedure authorizations Ensure all pre-op studies, clearances, OR scheduling, and clinical staffing are completed prior to procedures Serve as the primary point of contact for patients before, during, and after surgery Educate patients on procedure preparation, risks, benefits, and required education classes per physician instructions Coordinate directly with physicians, surgery centers, hospitals, billing teams, workers' compensation adjusters, and case managers Manage physician referral work queues and complete referrals accurately Prepare patient charts and update demographics and insurance information Handle physician correspondence, forms, calendars, and authorization requests Ensure special equipment requests and surgical arrangements are coordinated appropriately Provide exceptional patient support and assist with service recovery when needed Assist with administrative or clinical support duties based on operational needs
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED Flu Vaccination required (no exemptions or declinations accepted) Minimum 2 years of surgery/procedure scheduling experience Minimum 1 year of insurance authorization experience MUST have hands-on experience obtaining insurance authorizations for surgical procedures Experience with Epic EMR Strong communication, multitasking, and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience as a PSR or Medical Assistant Surgery center or hospital experience highly preferred Experience scheduling spinal procedures and total joint procedures preferred
Pay:
$24.00 per hour
