Job Description

Surgical Coordinator Southwest Eye Consultants - Durango, CO Southwest Eye Consultants is a growing, physician-owned ophthalmology practice serving the Four Corners region from locations in Durango, CO, Cortez, CO, and Farmington, NM. We are hiring an experienced Surgical Coordinator to manage the full lifecycle of surgical scheduling for our Durango office across cataract, glaucoma, and retina procedures. This is a detail-intensive, high-autonomy role at the center of our surgical operations. You'll own the process from the moment a patient is identified as a surgical candidate through their post-op follow-up — and you'll be the person who makes sure nothing falls through the cracks along the way. Our standard is what we call a Platinum Patient Experience — every patient, every time — and our Surgical Coordinator is one of the most critical people in making that real. What You'll Own Full surgical scheduling across procedures, facilities, and surgeons Insurance authorization, prior authorizations for surgery, and benefits verification through payer portals Pre-operative coordination: medical clearances, patient documentation packets, H&P requirements, and facility-specific protocols Patient education on surgical timelines, pre/post-op instructions, lens options, and what to expect day-of Day-of surgery logistics and communication with the surgical center, clinical staff, and physicians Documentation accuracy and follow-through in our EMR and scheduling platforms Proactive identification and resolution of scheduling conflicts, missing authorizations, and workflow bottlenecks What We're Looking For Required Minimum 2 years of experience in surgical scheduling, surgical coordination, or a related healthcare role Working knowledge of insurance authorization and prior authorization processes, including commercial and Medicare pathways Demonstrated ability to manage high-volume, multi-provider scheduling with precision Strong written and verbal communication skills — you'll be the bridge between patients, surgeons, clinical staff, and external facilities Comfort working independently and taking full ownership of your workflow Preferred Ophthalmology or outpatient surgical experience Familiarity with surgical center coordination and facility-specific documentation requirements Experience with EMRs or ophthalmic practice management software Schedule & Structure Monday through Friday; schedule may include early starts on surgery days Based in Durango, CO Reports to the Director of Clinical Operations What We Offer Competitive hourly compensation based on experience and qualifications 401(k) with employer match Health benefits Paid time off Professional development and growth opportunities within an expanding multi-site practice A collaborative, mission-driven team that operates on four core values: Compassion, Commitment, Excellence, and Teamwork Who Thrives Here You're not just organized — you're the person others rely on when the stakes are high and the details are complex. You take ownership without being asked, you follow through without being reminded, and you believe the patient's experience is shaped long before they walk into the OR. You want to be part of a team that is building something worth being proud of, and you're ready to bring your expertise to a practice that will value it.
