Job Description

Eckerd College is currently seeking candidates for the position of EC-SAR Coordinator of Training and Operations to join our Student Success team at our waterfront property along the Boca Ciega Bay in St. Petersburg, Florida, in our relationship-focused community. The EC-SAR Coordinator of Training and Operations is responsible for managing the instructional program for all team members, ensuring that the required high standards of performance are met and SAR operations are conducted safely and efficiently. The position develops and presents all training categories, evaluations of performance, maintenance of training records, and development of student instructors. We are seeking someone with advanced knowledge in lecture and skill instruction of EC-SAR training. The ideal candidate will possess strong verbal and written communication skills and basic knowledge and skill in working with computers, word processing and spreadsheet software packages (e.g., Word, Excel, Google Suite, etc) as well as the ability to handle and process confidential and sensitive information with discretion. The Waterfront Program is an important part of Eckerd College and remains true to its founding principle: "Education through Service." Key Responsibilities Ensures the safe and efficient execution of SAR operations, managing risk factors and care of personnel and resources on behalf of the College. Provides direct leadership of SAR operations in the roles of SAR Coordinator and Boat Captain, serving multiple "on call" duty periods each week. Assists with the development and review of EC-SAR policies and procedures. Develops, revises and presents training programs in all areas of EC-SAR that ensures a successful learning experience for students and high standards of execution of SAR operations, and manages the budgets related to those training programs. Manages and develops EC-SAR student members to maximize their learning experiences by helping them assimilate into team membership, succeed academically, reach training goals and performance standards, and perform student leadership responsibilities. Maintains professional relationships with Eckerd departments, local, state, and federal agencies for purposes of rescue response, training, equipment/supplies, and adherence to protocols. Assists with planning and preparing activities designed specifically for EC-SAR students, families, alumni, and prospective team members and manages the budgets related to those activities. Manages and provides certifications including NSBC (National Safe Boating Council), AHA BLS Provider, including lectures and skill training for EC-SAR and the Eckerd Community. Presents frequent multimedia presentations to local business, marine, and civic organizations. Provides support for general Waterfront events held for students, families, alumni, and prospective students, and major recreational events held for the EC Community. Assists with the execution of the Waterfront storm response plan. Qualifications Bachelor's degree; 3+ years' experience in EC-SAR operations and team membership. EC-SAR Alumnus possessing certifications at a minimum of Coxswain and Operations Coordinator.
