Job Summary M.A. Metal, Inc., a leader in custom metal fabrication in Edinburgh, Indiana, is seeking a skilled Planner and Scheduler to join our team. The Senior Planner and Scheduler is responsible for leading production planning, inventory and material accuracy, scheduling, capacity management, and material coordination for a high-volume metal stamping and fabrication operation. This role ensures efficient production flow across stamping, laser cutting, forming, welding, assembly, and secondary operations while supporting on-time delivery, inventory accuracy, labor utilization, and operational profitability. This position works cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, Production, Shipping, and Customer Service to optimize manufacturing performance using ERP-driven scheduling and KPI management systems. Key Responsibilities Production Planning & Scheduling Develop and manage master production schedules for metal stamping and fabrication operations using Epicor BAQs and Time Phase Reports Ensure Inventory Accuracy Material Planning is on schedule Balance workload across presses, lasers, brake presses, weld cells, and assembly departments Prioritize production based on customer demand, due dates, capacity, and material availability Coordinate schedule adjustments to address machine downtime, labor constraints, and material shortages Drive schedule adherence and on-time delivery performance Capacity & Resource Management Analyze machine utilization, labor availability, and production constraints Lead finite capacity planning activities Monitor bottleneck operations and implement corrective actions Optimize setup reduction and production sequencing Support overtime and staffing recommendations based on production demand ERP & Systems Management Utilize Epicor Kinetic ERP for scheduling, job tracking, labor analysis, and production reporting Develop and maintain BAQs, dashboards, and production KPIs Partner with IT and operations teams to improve reporting automation and manufacturing visibility Support Power BI and digital dashboard initiatives Inventory & Material Planning Coordinate with Purchasing Personnel to ensure timely material availability Monitor inventory levels, shortages, and critical supply risks Improve inventory turns while supporting production continuity using Epicor and Visual Management tools in congruity Manage WIP flow and production staging activities KPI & Performance Management Ensure Material and Inventory Accuracy >97% Monitor and report on-time delivery Monitor and report schedule adherence Monitor and report labor efficiency Monitor and report machine utilization Monitor and report scrap and rework Monitor and report production throughput Monitor and report job start and completion Lead continuous improvement initiatives using production data and operational metrics Leadership & Collaboration Lead planning meetings and production review meetings Collaborate with manufacturing leadership to improve workflow efficiency Support engineering changes, new product launches, and customer escalations Mentor and develop future planners, schedulers, and production coordinators
Qualifications Experience:
6+ years of production planning / scheduling in manufacturing Technical Skills:
2+ years direct experience in Epicor ERP system. Direct experience or strong familiarity with typical production operations associated with metal forming, fabricating and assembly such as stamping, welding, cutting, bending, etc. Education:
Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Supply Chain, Manufacturing Engineering, Business, or related field. Equivalent Manufacturing / Planning experience may be considered. Physical Requirements:
Ability to work in an office and shop environment, with occasional lifting up to 50 lbs and exposure to fabrication processes (with appropriate PPE). Soft Skills:
Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and communication skills to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and report to senior leadership. Preferred Attributes Required:
Experience in Epicor ERP, Production Scheduling, Capacity Planning, Inventory Planning and Control, KPI Analysis, Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, Outlook, etc. Preferred:
Power BI, Epicor BAQ generation, Lean Manufacturing, APICS/CPIM Certification. Dedication to excellence and a proactive/urgent approach to solving real-world engineering challenges.
