SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, but according to established policies and procedures, functions as a lead or resource person for clerical employees. Utilizes experience-based knowledge of specific unit/department operations in order to assign work, established work schedules and review the work of others. Regularly performs a variety of clerical duties in addition to lead responsibilities, such as gathering data, preparing reports, taking messages, typing and so forth. RESPONSIBILITIES
Functions as a lead or resource person for unit departmental clerical personnel; assigns and reviews work, assists in the orientation and training of new employees and is responsible for coordinating the flow of work through an assigned area of responsibility.

May provide input into the development of work procedures within an assigned unit/department and maintains daily time schedules.

Monitors and evaluates the work processed by other clerical employees and ensures that established standards of accuracy are maintained.

May be responsible for ordering and inventorying expendable office supplies for the unit/department.

Assists subordinate clerical employees with complex and/or sensitive work-related matters. Explains and instructs new procedures, reports formats, codes, etc.

In addition to the above lead duties, regularly performs a variety of clerical duties within assigned unit/department, such as researching files, records, etc. In order to locate necessary information, answering phones, compiling reports, studies charts, etc. Billing for unit/department charges; maintaining office equipment in good working condition, and completing forms and records, as well as typing.

May operate a variety of standard and/or automated office equipment such as a calculator, photocopier, adding machine, microfilm viewer, typewriter, and an on-line computer terminal. The level of typing skills required is not that of a correspondence typist.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
BASIC
KNOWLEDGE
A level of knowledge generally obtained through high school or its equivalent.

The ability to operate standard and automated office equipment, including an on-line computer terminal.

Good math skills in order to perform statistical analysis, calculate and verify report totals.

The administrative ability to function as a lead or resource person for clerical employees and coordinate their activities.
EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or equivalent. Six to twelve months experience with progressively more responsible experience in order to become familiar with all unit/department functions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires standing, bending, and sitting. Sufficient visual acuity and manual dexterity to use computer keyboard and other common office equipment.
INDEPENDENT ACTION
Performs independently within the department's polices and practice. Refers specific complex problems to the supervisor when clarification of the departmental policies and procedures.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
Functions as a lead or resource person for clerical employees.
Pay Range:
$22.04-$36.37
