Job Description

SUMMARY The Grain Operations Specialist is responsible for supporting the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of grain handling activities under the direction of the Grain Manager. This position supports grain receiving, testing, storage, loading, equipment operation, facility upkeep, and customer service while helping ensure adherence to quality standards, operational procedures, and applicable safety requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(Includes the following and other duties as assigned.)
Grain Handling:
Assist with the receipt, weighing, sampling, testing, and storage of inbound grain shipments. Load and unload trucks and other grain transportation vehicles in accordance with established procedures. Operate conveyors, elevators, dryers, and other grain-handling equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Monitor grain condition and quality throughout handling and storage processes to support compliance with company standards. Maintain accurate inventory records, storage documentation, and related operational logs.
Equipment/Facility Operation & Maintenance:
Operate grain drying and related equipment as needed to support daily operations. Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on grain-handling equipment and related machinery. Assist with troubleshooting equipment issues and communicating maintenance needs to appropriate personnel. Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment, including general housekeeping of work areas, grain bins, and facility grounds. Assists with the outside maintenance and upkeep of general cooperative facilities - including mowing, painting, etc.
Compliance & Quality Control:
Support verification that purchased grain meets applicable quality specifications and regulatory requirements. Work with designated personnel to sample and test grain and address identified quality concerns in a timely manner. Follow company policies and applicable local, state, and federal regulations related to grain handling, storage, and quality control. Comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and training requirements, including the use of required personal protective equipment. Adhere to applicable local, state, and federal regulations governing grain handling and storage operations. Participate in safety inspections, drills, and continuous improvement efforts as assigned.
Customer Service:
Communicate with farmers, truck drivers, vendors, and other customers in a professional, respectful, and service-oriented manner. Provide support for operational paperwork, scale functions, and delivery coordination as needed. Effectively communicates by verbal and written means with employees and management. Maintains a positive attitude that promotes teamwork within the cooperative. Presents a clean and professional appearance. Ability to work a variable schedule including days of the week, shifts, and hours per week (including overtime and/or on-call as needed). Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and adapt to changing operational priorities, particularly during peak seasonal periods. Possess basic mechanical aptitude and the ability to learn grain-handling systems and equipment operation. Responsible for prompt and regular attendance.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Prior experience in grain operations, agriculture, manufacturing, or a related operational environment preferred. Willing to seek out and attend additional continuing education, seminars, classes or other job-related education requirements or opportunities.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
The ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Basic mathematical skills are required for this role including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numerical values.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Must possess some basic computer operation skills.
REASONING ABILITY
Apply basic understanding as it relates to conducting instructions whether written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to juggle problems that may include multiple variables and unique/complex situations. Have the capability of thinking quickly, assessing hazards, using necessary precautions, selecting appropriate PPE as required by specific needs, regulations, or labels.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Driver's License with a safe driving record - Travel may be required occasionally for meetings and training as needed. Forklift Certification, or the ability to obtain. Must be 18 years of age.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
As an employee your duties may require standing, walking, and sitting. Additionally, you may be required to use your hands to finger, handle or feel. Reaching with hands and arms or climbing and balancing may be required. Stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling are additional potential demands. Situations that require talking, hearing, or smelling may occur. You will be regularly lifting or moving 50 pounds or more, and occasionally lift/move 75-100 pounds. The use of ladders might be required climbing to a height of 20' as well as climbing stairs. You might have to use close, distant, color or peripheral vision including depth perception and focus. Employees must understand and implement all related safety policies, procedures and programs for prevention and protection while performing job duties in various work environments.

The noise environment has the potential to be loud (not to exceed the eight-hour threshold for working in or around equipment). As an employee you must understand, acknowledge, and implement all related polices/procedures related to safety including prevention and protection programs for the various job duties and environments encountered.
