Immediately Job Description Houston County Board of Education Job Description Classified Positions Job Title Journeyman III•Distribution Center/Warehouse Job Code __468______ Department/Location Distribution Center, Perry_ FLSA Status Non-Exempt Reports To Distribution Center/Warehouse Supervisor Date _September 19, 2005 Summary and relationship to the curriculum: All classified positions will strengthen the delivery of instruction to support the system mission statement. This position serves in the role of managing stock items for distribution throughout the school system.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manages assigned stock class. Ensure materials are stocked in pulling areas. Coordinates with Buyers and other Purchasing Department personnel to ensure adequate levels of supplies are maintained. Coordinates with Purchasing Department personnel to identify substandard products, damaged goods, shortages, and overages. Reads purchase order, picking ticket, service/work order, or requisition to determine items to be received, shipped, gathered, delivered, or repaired. Selects and counts proper items from stock, packs orders in boxes or shipping containers, and places orders on pallets. Manually and/or mechanically conveys materials and items to/from receiving or shipping areas, to/from storage or to/from other designated areas. Sorts and places materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequence such as size, type style, color, or product code. Assists in the direction of unloading all goods and materials received at the distribution center and carefully check same as to quantity and condition. Records shortages and damages on receiving documents and notifies supervisor of same. Manually and /or mechanically loads and unloads furniture, foodstuff, or other materials or equipment onto and from delivery vehicles. Opens, unpacks, counts and inspects materials, equipment and other goods when received. Assists in the direction of loading materials into vehicles and uses padding and securing devices to prevent shifting and/or damage in transit. Sorts and stores perishable and frozen goods in refrigerated rooms. Ensures the maintenance of warehouse layout of stored materials and/or equipment. Operates vehicles, forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment to assist in moving large, heavy or bulk items. Attaches identifying tags or labels to materials or marks information on cases, boxes, or other containers when shipped, stored, and/or received. Assists in the counting of material, equipment, merchandise, or supplies in stock and records totals. Identifies damaged or defective materials, equipment, or supplies. Prepares damage reports and notifies supervisor. Assists in reconciling inventory balances as to shortages and overages. Assists in taking inventory by counting and recording stock items on count sheets or as directed. Assumes partial responsibility for inventory taking of specific stock class. Records amounts of materials or items received or distributed. Uses computer to enter records. Communicates with vendors to resolve shortages, overages, and damages in shipments. Takes directions and work assignments from the Senior Purchasing Agent and Buyers. Operates School Board vehicle and equipment in a safe manner and assumes responsibility for all supplies and equipment on the vehicle. Performs duties and tasks of Distribution Center Technician as needed and as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned by Distribution Center/Warehouse Supervisor.Qualifications:

Highs School Four years experience in inventory keeping/warehouse or distribution center operations, preferred.Certificate or License Required:
Valid driver's license and good driving record. c)Language Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, detailed correspondence, and memos. Ability to write detailed correspondence and directives. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations. Familiarity with common terminology relating to distribution, logistics and procurement. d)Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole number, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs and pie charts. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. e)Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.Technical Ability:
Must have considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office Products. Must have skill and knowledge of scanning and imaging hardware and software. Operate standard office equipment.Logistics Ability:
Familiarity with and proficient in planning and executing distribution activities.Customer Service Skills:
Must be capable of interacting effectively with administrators, teachers, staff members, students, parents, and the general public using tactful and helpful customer service.Physical Demands:
