Job Description

SHIPPING CLERK

JOB SUMMARY
Order management, assuring on time shipment to our customers' specifications, and administering special compliance programs. Responsible for accuracy of shipping documents.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Frequent contact with customers' shipping agents, outside freight companies and forwarders to assure correct on-time shipments.
  • Track and expedite back orders; control paperwork; coordinate with sales / forecast / production coordinator.
  • Follow up and respond to customer inquiries regarding back orders and past dues.
  • Mark up and / or correct picking / packing slips and bills of lading where quantities deviate from standard.
  • Route and sort small parts, no charge orders to UPS, RPS or Parcel Post, depending on size of orders to minimize shipping costs.
  • Note number of parts packages and weights on bills of lading and picking / packing slips where truck orders have parts.
  • Sort truck orders by carrier.
  • Consolidate bills of lading, where two or more shipments are going to the same company, same location to reduce excessive freight costs.
  • Print and expedite "special" orders called down by Customer Service.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Associates Degree preferred.
  • 1-3 years' experience required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Detail oriented.
  • PC skills A MUST; Proficient in Word, Excel, and Internet applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal and phone skills.
