Job Title:
Shipping and Packaging Machine Operator - 3rd Shift - 23/hr Job Description This role operates and monitors packaging and production machinery in a large manufacturing environment, ensuring products are packaged safely, accurately, and efficiently. The position requires consistent adherence to quality standards, safe material handling, and the ability to work 12-hour shifts on a rotating schedule. Responsibilities Operate and understand packaging machinery, including palletizers, strapping machines, wrapping machines, forklifts, and production overflow equipment. Run production machines by performing short-cycle, repetitive, and controlled operations to maintain steady output. Maintain set patterns and configurations of products to achieve consistent, high-quality packaging. Inspect products and packaging for quality defects and take appropriate action to correct issues. Perform minor adjustments to machinery to maintain proper operation and production flow. Meet and maintain standard production objectives and performance targets. Handle, load, and move materials safely, including lifting, carrying, and pushing or pulling items over 50 lbs. Support safe forklift operations, including learning to drive a forklift and obtaining certification when required. Maintain housekeeping and cleanliness of assigned work areas to promote safety and efficiency. Use required personal protective equipment, including steel-toed shoes and eye, hearing, and hand protection, and wear head protection in designated areas. Follow all plant safety procedures, access protocols, and equipment operation guidelines. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to address production issues and support continuous improvement. Essential Skills Minimum 2+ years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment operating machines. Demonstrated ability to operate production and packaging machinery such as palletizers, strapping machines, wrapping machines, and related equipment. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to and over 50 lbs safely and repeatedly. Ability to stand, walk, and move continuously for 12-hour shifts. Willingness to learn how to drive a forklift and obtain forklift certification. Consistent use of steel-toed shoes and hearing protection while on the production floor. Ability to follow established patterns and procedures to maintain product quality and production standards. Attention to detail for inspecting products and identifying quality defects. Basic mechanical aptitude to perform minor machinery adjustments. Reliability and flexibility to work 12-hour shifts, including overnight hours. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with general production, packaging, inspection, and assembly in a manufacturing setting. Familiarity with hand tools and basic maintenance tasks for production equipment. Experience with general labor tasks in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Comfort working with forklifts and other material-handling equipment once trained and certified. Ability to follow safety protocols and use personal protective equipment consistently. Willingness to train on day shifts and transition to longer 12-hour shifts as needed. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a large manufacturing and packaging operation within a major food production facility. The site uses gated parking lots and badge access for building entry, providing a secure and controlled environment. Work takes place on the production floor around packaging and material-handling equipment, including palletizers, strapping machines, wrapping machines, and forklifts. The position follows a 3rd shift schedule of 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. with 12-hour shifts, including scheduled breaks and lunches. Initial training occurs on a day shift with 8-hour schedules for approximately 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the individual, before transitioning to 12-hour shifts. The environment requires frequent standing, walking, and material handling, including lifting and moving items over 50 lbs. Personal protective equipment is mandatory, including steel-toed shoes, eye protection, hearing protection, and hand protection, with head protection required in certain areas. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Napoleon, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr.
