ROLE SUMMARY
The Shipping & Receiving Clerk is a mission-critical role on our production team. This person is the first and last point of contact for every pound of material that moves through our facility. In a warehouse with 1,000+ active SKUs — many with similar names — accuracy, urgency, and ownership are non-negotiable. We need someone who moves fast, reads labels twice, and takes pride in a warehouse that runs like clockwork. Core Responsibilities Receiving & Inbound Materials Receive inbound shipments, verify quantities and item descriptions against purchase orders and packing slips — with zero tolerance for mislabeled or misplaced product. Inspect incoming materials for damage, contamination, or discrepancies; escalate issues immediately and document findings. Accurately identify and differentiate materials across 1,000+ active SKUs, many with similar or near-identical names — this requires genuine attention to detail, not a casual read. Warehousing & Inventory Control Place received materials in designated warehouse locations per established storage protocols. Operate sit-down and stand-up forklifts to move palletized materials safely and efficiently. Forklift certification required. Conduct cycle counts and assist with periodic physical inventory audits. Maintain a clean, organized, and OSHA-compliant warehouse at all times. Flag and quarantine non-conforming materials; assist with disposition decisions. Shipping & Outbound Pick, pack, and stage outbound orders per shipping documentation, ensuring correct product, quantity, and labeling on every shipment. Generate BOLs, packing lists, and shipping labels; coordinate with carriers for pickup scheduling. Verify hazardous material shipping compliance requirements are met for applicable products (training provided). Communicate proactively with the production and sales teams regarding order status and any shipment delays. General Operations Support production team with material movement and staging as needed. Assist with waste/drum management and proper labeling of materials in storage. Maintain accurate records; report discrepancies or process breakdowns without delay. Embrace and follow all safety protocols, PPE requirements, and company procedures. What We're Really Looking For Beyond the job description, the people who thrive here share a specific set of traits: Hungry & Driven — You don't wait to be told what to do next. You see what needs doing and you do it. Urgency isn't something we have to instill — it's how you're wired. Slow days don't exist; there's always a way to add value. Detail-Oriented to a Fault — We stock hundreds of chemistries with names that look nearly identical to the untrained eye. A receiving error here isn't a paperwork inconvenience — it can compromise a production batch or a customer shipment. You read, verify, and double-check without being asked. Humble & Coachable — You don't know everything yet, and that's fine. What matters is that you take feedback well, ask good questions, and continuously improve. We'll invest in you if you're invested in getting better. Forklift Operator — You are certified (or immediately certifiable) to safely operate a forklift. Moving pallets efficiently and safely is a daily part of this role, not an occasional task. Built for a Busy Warehouse — 1,000+ SKUs, constant throughput, multiple orders moving simultaneously. You thrive in that environment, not just survive it. Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent Valid forklift certification (sit-down and/or stand-up), or ability to obtain certification within the first 30 days of employment 1+ years of shipping/receiving, warehouse, or distribution experience Demonstrated ability to work accurately in a high-SKU, high-throughput environment Strong reading comprehension — must be able to accurately read and compare product names, lot numbers, and material specifications Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and operate material handling equipment Preferred Experience in a chemical distribution, manufacturing, or specialty materials environment Familiarity with hazardous materials shipping regulations (DOT/IATA) Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus, not required Physical & Work Environment This is an on-site, warehouse-based role — remote or hybrid work is not applicable. Regular exposure to industrial chemicals; all required PPE provided and mandatory. Standing, walking, bending, and operating forklifts throughout the shift. Environment may include varying temperatures and noise levels typical of a warehouse/manufacturing setting. Must be able to work a consistent, full-time schedule; occasional overtime may be required based on production and shipment demands.
