Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Transportation Practice Builder to lead and grow our Orlando-based transportation practice, with a primary focus on the Central Florida market and local municipal clients. This leadership role is ideal for a proven transportation professional with deep technical expertise, strong client relationships, and a demonstrated ability to build, manage, and expand a successful practice in Central Florida.
The successful candidate will be responsible for strategic growth, client engagement, team development, and delivery excellence across roadway, traffic, and transportation infrastructure projects.
Key ResponsibilitiesPractice & Business DevelopmentBuild, lead, and grow the Orlando transportation practice with a focus on FDOT D5, counties, cities, and toll authorities.
Leverage established relationships and industry presence within FDOT D5 to identify, pursue, and secure new work.
Develop and execute short- and long-term growth strategies aligned with company goals.
Lead proposal development efforts, including go/no-go decisions, teaming strategies, and client interviews.
Represent the firm at industry events, professional organizations, and client meetings across Central Florida.
Client & Stakeholder EngagementServe as a trusted advisor to FDOT D5 and local agency clients.
Maintain and strengthen existing client relationships while cultivating new ones.
Collaborate with subconsultants, partners, and internal teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
Act as a visible leader in the Central Florida transportation market.
Technical & Project LeadershipProvide oversight and strategic guidance on transportation projects, including roadway design, traffic engineering, PD&E support, and design-build pursuits.
Ensure projects meet quality, schedule, and budget expectations.
Support delivery teams with technical insight, risk management, and problem-solving.
Team Leadership & MentorshipBuild and mentor a high-performing Orlando-based transportation team.
Recruit, develop, and retain top talent aligned with practice growth goals.
Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and accountable team culture.
Coordinate with other regional and state leaders to share resources and best practices.
Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field (Master's degree preferred).Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license (required).12+ years of progressive experience in transportation engineering.
Demonstrated success working with FDOT District Five (D5), including strong existing relationships and market knowledge.
Proven track record of business development, practice growth, and client management.
Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing transportation projects.
Strong communication, leadership, and presentation skills.
Preferred QualificationsPrior experience serving as a Practice Leader, Office Leader, or Market Sector Leader.
Established presence in professional organizations (e.g., FSCE, ITE, ASHE).Experience with alternative delivery methods (Design-Build, CMAR).Familiarity with Central Florida municipal and county clients.
