Job Description

Job Summary The Shop Manager is responsible for maintaining the organization, cleanliness, inventory, and daily readiness of the Greener World Solutions shop, office-front area, storage areas, vehicles, equipment, materials, and grounds. This position supports field operations by ensuring materials, equipment, disposable items, and available shop labor are properly managed and ready for upcoming work. This position reports directly to the Operations Manager. Responsibilities Daily Shop and Office Walkthrough The Shop Manager is responsible for completing a daily walkthrough of the front-end office and shop areas. During this walkthrough, they should identify concerns related to cleanliness, organization, safety, maintenance, materials, equipment, or general facility upkeep. The Shop Manager is expected to create a plan to address any issues identified, prioritize urgent or safety-related concerns, communicate those issues directly to the Operations Manager, and document and follow through on corrective actions to ensure issues are resolved in a timely manner. The Shop Manager is also responsible for entering documentation of daily tasks completed each day. Inventory and Disposable Item Management The Shop Manager is responsible for monitoring, ordering, restocking, and adjusting disposable inventory levels as needed based on usage, upcoming work, and operational needs. The Shop Manager is responsible for completing material and disposable inventory on a bi-weekly basis and submitting completed inventory to the Operations Manager on the last day of the month. This position is also responsible for maintaining proper inventory levels for commonly used shop and field supplies and keeping product storage areas clean, organized, labeled, and easy to access. Material and Equipment Pulling / Staging The Shop Manager is responsible for pulling and staging materials and equipment for upcoming jobs as directed. All material pulls must be clearly labeled with the project name. Staged equipment should be tested as necessary to confirm it is working properly before use. The goal is to have crews out the door in less than 20 minutes by having materials and equipment properly staged and ready. Equipment and Material Pickup / Delivery The Shop Manager is responsible for assisting with equipment and material pickup and delivery as needed. Pickups and deliveries must be completed safely and accurately. Any issues with pickup, delivery, shortages, damage, or timing should be communicated to the Operations Manager. Chemical and Waste Handling The Shop Manager is responsible for managing the disposal or reclamation process for used chemicals. This includes coordinating proper disposal of used chemical containers, drums, and totes. Used drums are to be disposed of by crushing. The Shop Manager must maintain safe and organized chemical storage and disposal areas and follow company safety procedures and applicable disposal requirements. Shop Labor Direction When shop labor is available, the Shop Manager is responsible for providing direction and assigning tasks. Tasks may include cleaning, organizing, loading, unloading, inventory, yard work, and material handling. The Shop Manager is responsible for making sure assigned shop tasks are completed correctly and on time. Vehicle and Equipment Upkeep The Shop Manager is responsible for ensuring company vehicles are washed, cleaned, and maintained as needed. They should monitor vehicle cleanliness and readiness for crews and report any needed vehicle repairs directly to the Operations Manager. They are also responsible for reporting equipment concerns, damage, or maintenance needs to the Operations Manager. Grounds and Facility Maintenance The Shop Manager is responsible for maintaining the outside grounds of the shop and office. This includes mowing, trimming, and general lawn upkeep as needed. During winter conditions, snow removal is completed by a hired subcontractor. The Shop Manager is responsible for confirming snow removal has been completed and confirming that facility doors have had snow removed and are accessible. The Shop Manager is responsible for keeping exterior areas clean, safe, and professional-looking. Material Deliveries The Shop Manager is responsible for receiving, unloading, organizing, and putting away delivered materials. They must verify deliveries are placed in the correct storage areas and communicate any delivery issues or shortages to the Operations Manager. SOP Development and Process Improvement The Shop Manager is responsible for collaborating with the Operations Manager to develop standard operating procedures. This includes identifying ways to improve shop efficiency, organization, inventory control, material staging, equipment staging, and daily workflow. They are expected to follow approved SOPs and help ensure shop labor understands and follows established procedures when available. Qualifications and Expectations
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage daily priorities and keep the shop running smoothly.
  • Basic understanding of construction materials, shop operations, equipment handling, and inventory control.
  • Ability to direct shop labor when available while following direction from the Operations Manager.
  • Comfortable with physical labor, lifting, loading, unloading, driving, pickups, deliveries, and outdoor work.
  • Commitment to cleanliness, safety, and professional shop standards.
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work with limited supervision.
  • Good communication skills with management, foremen, vendors, and delivery drivers.
Pay:
$22.00 - $26.00 per hour
