Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Yard Manager to oversee daily operations at our logistics and distribution facility. This pivotal role involves managing warehouse activities, coordinating transportation and freight operations, supervising staff, and ensuring efficient inventory control. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in supply chain management, warehouse supervision, and logistics planning. They will be instrumental in optimizing processes, maintaining safety standards, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance overall operational performance. Key responsibilities include overseeing shipping and receiving functions, managing transportation planning and fleet operations, implementing process improvements using Lean methodologies, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. The Yard Manager will also be responsible for budget management, procurement activities, and leveraging ERP systems to streamline workflows. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a dynamic leader committed to excellence in supply chain execution. Responsibilities Supervise daily warehouse activities including shipping, receiving, inventory management, and order fulfillment to ensure smooth operations. Coordinate transportation planning and fleet management to optimize delivery schedules and reduce costs. Oversee freight management processes, including 3PL providers, NVOCC (Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier) operations, and dispatching. Implement process improvement strategies utilizing Lean principles to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve safety. Manage procurement activities such as purchasing materials and negotiating with suppliers to ensure timely availability of goods. Utilize Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), ERP platforms like AS400, and supply chain analytics tools to monitor performance metrics. Lead continuous improvement initiatives across operations by analyzing supply chain data and identifying opportunities for optimization. Oversee inventory control procedures ensuring accuracy through regular audits and cycle counts. Develop budgets for warehouse operations while monitoring expenses related to freight, shipping & receiving, and materials management. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and promote a safe working environment for all staff. Collaborate with production planning teams to align warehouse capacity with demand forecasts. Skills Extensive experience in warehouse supervision combined with strong knowledge of supply chain management principles. Proven ability in transportation management systems (TMS), ERP systems (such as AS400), and warehouse management systems (WMS). Skilled in process improvement methodologies including Lean and continuous improvement practices. Strong understanding of profit & loss management, budgeting, procurement, demand planning, and operations management. Proficiency in transportation planning, freight logistics including 3PL providers and NVOCC operations. Demonstrated supervisory experience leading teams within warehouse or logistics environments. Familiarity with inventory management techniques such as inventory control and warehouse distribution. Competence in using supply chain analytics tools for data-driven decision making. Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively while maintaining attention to detail. Excellent communication skills for coordinating with internal teams, vendors, and external partners.
