We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to help lead daily delivery operations and support our continued growth. Position Summary The Operations Manager is responsible for supporting and overseeing all aspects of daily transportation and delivery operations, including dispatch execution, driver performance, staffing, labor planning, fleet readiness, safety compliance, and operational performance metrics. This role provides leadership for an operation consisting of 120+ employees and 60-80 daily delivery routes , requiring strong organizational skills, attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment. This position reports directly to the Vice President and works closely with company ownership to execute operational strategy and achieve business objectives. The ideal candidate has experience leading large teams of 30+ employees and possesses exceptional communication, organizational, leadership, and attention-to-detail skills necessary to manage a complex operation. This individual is a proactive operator who can lead under pressure, make real-time decisions, improve processes, and hold teams accountable to high standards. This position spends a significant portion of the day actively engaged in operations, coaching employees, supporting dispatch, conducting observations, and addressing operational issues in real time. This is not a passive management role. The Operations Manager is expected to lead from the front, maintain a visible presence throughout the operation, and actively support team members in achieving operational success. Key ResponsibilitiesOperations Leadership Provide direct leadership and operational oversight for a workforce of 120+ employees supporting 60-80 daily delivery routes , ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant operations across all areas of the business. Support oversight of all daily transportation and delivery operations. Ensure successful route planning, dispatch execution, and on-time departures. Monitor real-time route performance and make operational adjustments as needed. Drive operational excellence across loadout, on-road support, route recovery efforts, and end-of-day operations. Serve as a key escalation point for operational issues and problem resolution. Assist with implementation of operational initiatives and process improvements. Responsible for labor planning, overtime management, and operational cost control. Monitor labor efficiency and staffing utilization to ensure operational and financial objectives are achieved. Assist in managing departmental budgets and operational expenses. Team Leadership & Development Lead Dispatchers, Driver Trainers, and Delivery Associates. Coach and develop team members to improve performance and accountability. Support hiring, onboarding, training, and retention efforts. Conduct coaching sessions, performance reviews, corrective actions, and employee development discussions. Foster a culture of ownership, professionalism, teamwork, and safety. Maintain strong leadership visibility throughout daily operations. Performance Management Support accountability for operational performance metrics, including: Safety Service Performance Customer Experience Compliance Quality Productivity Analyze operational data and reporting to identify opportunities for improvement. Develop and implement corrective action plans. Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the operation. Utilize Excel and reporting tools to monitor KPIs, trends, and performance metrics. Safety & Compliance Enforce all company safety standards and operating procedures. Ensure proper incident reporting, documentation, investigation, and retraining. Maintain compliance with DOT regulations, company policies, and contractual requirements. Promote a safety-first culture through active leadership and accountability. Fleet & Asset Management Assist with fleet readiness and maintenance coordination. Track vehicle damages, downtime, and preventative maintenance needs. Ensure operational equipment, devices, and vehicles remain safe, functional, and properly maintained. Staffing & Labor Management Assist with scheduling and labor planning based on business needs. Support labor efficiency and overtime management initiatives. Manage attendance concerns, call-outs, voluntary time off decisions, and staffing adjustments. Ensure accurate timekeeping, payroll inputs, and labor reporting. Duties Lead and manage transportation planning, freight management, and fleet operations to ensure timely delivery and cost efficiency. Oversee warehouse distribution activities including shipping & receiving, inventory control, procurement, and order fulfillment to maintain optimal stock levels. Implement process improvement initiatives utilizing Lean principles and continuous improvement methodologies to streamline workflows and reduce waste. Supervise staff, including supervisors, dispatchers, forklift operators, and procurement personnel, fostering a high-performance team environment. Manage budgets related to logistics operations, including freight costs, procurement expenses, and operational overheads while maintaining profit & loss accountability. Develop demand planning strategies aligned with production scheduling and inventory management goals to meet customer expectations efficiently. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards while maintaining a safe working environment for all team members. Required Qualifications 3-5+ years of leadership experience in logistics, transportation, warehouse operations, distribution, manufacturing, or related industries. 3-5+ years managing teams in a fast-paced operational environment. Demonstrated experience directly managing teams of 30 or more employees . Proven ability to lead through multiple levels of staff, including supervisors, trainers, dispatch personnel, and frontline employees. Exceptional interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate expectations, provide coaching, resolve conflict, and build trust across all levels of an organization. Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify operational issues, compliance concerns, performance trends, and process gaps before they become larger problems. Excellent decision-making and problem-solving abilities in time-sensitive situations. Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while maintaining operational standards and accountability. Strong organizational, planning, and time-management skills. High proficiency with Microsoft Excel, reporting tools, and operational performance metrics. Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and develop action plans to improve performance. Comfortable delivering difficult conversations, corrective actions, and performance feedback professionally and consistently. Comfortable working weekends, holidays, and early mornings as operational needs require. Preferred Qualifications Experience managing teams of 50+ employees. Experience overseeing dispatch, transportation, delivery, warehouse, or distribution operations. Experience managing operational scorecards, KPIs, and performance management systems. Transportation, logistics, fleet management, or supply chain experience. Experience leading operational change initiatives and process improvement projects. Experience developing supervisors, trainers, and frontline leadership teams. Proven track record of improving operational efficiency, employee retention, safety performance, and service quality.
