POSITION SUMMARY
Roman Fountains is seeking a highly capable and motivated Materials Manager to lead and build the systems that power our material flow, vendor network, and inventory performance. This role is responsible for the end-to-end ownership of purchasing, inventory management, vendor development, and sourcing strategy, ensuring that materials are available, cost-effective, and aligned with production and customer delivery goals. As a key member of the operations leadership team, this individual will design, implement, and continuously improve the systems and processes that support a growing engineering and manufacturing business. This is not a maintenance role—this is a build and lead role.
RESPONSIBILITY & REQUIREMENTS
1. Materials Management Ownership & Strategy Own and continuously improve the full supply chain function: purchasing, inventory, vendor management, and sourcing Develop and implement scalable systems for procurement, inventory control, and material planning Establish KPIs and reporting for cost, lead time, vendor performance, and inventory turns Align supply chain strategy with company growth, production needs, and financial goals 2. Vendor Development & Strategic Sourcing Build and manage a high-performing vendor network with a focus on reliability, quality, and cost Lead sourcing efforts for new components, assemblies, and cost-reduction opportunities Negotiate pricing, terms, and agreements with key suppliers Update vendor costs and coordinate associated pricing updates within sales systems Identify and mitigate supply risks through diversification and planning 3. Purchasing & Execution Excellence Oversee and optimize the purchasing process to ensure timely and accurate procurement Ensure purchase orders, pricing, and delivery commitments meet or exceed production requirements Create visibility into order status, lead times, and supply constraints 4. Inventory & Materials Management Design and implement inventory systems that balance availability with working capital efficiency Establish reorder strategies, stocking levels, and material planning processes Partner with production and shipping to ensure material flow supports build schedules and order fulfillment 5. Cross-Functional Leadership Work closely with Engineering, Production, Sales, and Finance to align material planning with project needs and margins Support quoting and costing processes with accurate, real-time supply data Act as the internal expert on materials, vendors, and supply chain capabilities 6. Systems & Process Development Develop and improve systems (QuickBooks and beyond) to support procurement, inventory tracking, and data visibility Build tools, dashboards, and processes that enable better decision-making Drive continuous improvement across all supply chain activities SKILLS and
QUALIFICATIONS
A minimum of 5+ years of Materials Management, Purchasing or Procurement Experience (Manufacturing environment preferred). Demonstrated experience improving systems, processes or vendor performance. Experience with ERP/accounting systems (Quickbooks or similar); ability to improve or evolve systems preferred. Strong negotiation and vendor management capabilities. High level of ownership and accountability - ability to lead, not just execute. Analytical mindset with ability to use data to drive decisions. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment. Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical teams. Mechanical aptitude or familiarity with engineered products is a strong plus.
