profitable and growing Tier 1 automotive supplier located in the Hammond, Indiana area is seeking a Materials Manager to lead all materials planning, inventory management, production scheduling, warehouse operations, and customer delivery functions for an approximately $80M+ assembly manufacturing operation. Production Planning is key to this role! This is not a turnaround opportunity. The plant has undergone significant operational improvements and is performing well. The organization is seeking a strong Materials Manager capable of maintaining operational discipline, improving inventory performance, supporting customer delivery requirements, and continuing to build world-class materials management processes. This position reports directly to the Plant Manager and serves as a key member of the plant leadership team. This is NOT a Purchasing role. Key Responsibilities Lead all Materials Planning, Inventory Control, Production Scheduling, Shipping, Receiving, and Warehouse Operations. Develop and manage master production schedules to support customer demand, production efficiency, and inventory optimization. Maintain inventory accuracy through cycle count programs, inventory controls, and disciplined materials management processes. Ensure uninterrupted material flow to support high-volume assembly operations and customer delivery requirements. Utilize
PLEX ERP/MRP
system to manage: Production schedules Material releases Inventory planning Capacity planning Customer demand requirements Coordinate customer forecasts, releases, and production schedules to ensure on-time delivery performance. Partner closely with Operations, Manufacturing, Quality, Customer Service, and Suppliers to support plant objectives. Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on: Inventory reduction Inventory turns Schedule attainment Warehouse efficiency Material flow optimization Manage cycle count programs and inventory reconciliation activities. Lead and develop materials planners, schedulers, inventory analysts, warehouse personnel, and shipping/receiving teams.
Monitor key performance indicators including:
Inventory accuracy Inventory turns Customer delivery performance Premium freight Schedule adherence Material shortages Support annual budgeting, capacity planning, and business growth initiatives. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree required. Supply Chain Business Engineering Operations Management Logistics Related field preferred Minimum 5-10 years of progressive Materials Management experience within automotive manufacturing.
Prior experience in:
Materials Planning Master Scheduling Production Control Inventory Management Warehouse Operations Customer Scheduling Strong Tier 1 automotive manufacturing experience required. Experience supporting high-volume assembly operations preferred. Hands-on experience with
PLEX ERP/MRP
systems strongly preferred.
Strong understanding of:
MRP systems Capacity planning Inventory control Customer releases EDI transactions Production scheduling Automotive supply chain operations Demonstrated success improving inventory accuracy, reducing shortages, and supporting customer delivery performance.
