This is a high-level operational leadership role responsible for inventory accuracy, compliance, purchasing, vendor management, vault operations, discrepancy reduction, process improvement, and inventory team leadership. This position is responsible for all cannabis inventory within the business, including active sales floor inventory, backstock, deliveries, quarantined product, waste, transfers, and compliance-related inventory procedures. The Inventory Manager is expected to maintain accurate records, ensure operational efficiency, improve inventory processes, and proactively identify and resolve areas of opportunity. In addition to operational responsibilities, this role requires strong leadership abilities and people management skills. The Inventory Manager is expected to lead the inventory department with professionalism, accountability, urgency, and consistency while addressing performance concerns, interpersonal conflict, and operational issues directly and effectively. The ideal candidate is highly organized, operationally driven, detail-oriented, confident in leadership situations, and capable of independently managing both inventory operations and team accountability in a fast-paced cannabis retail environment. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervise and guide inventory team members, ensuring accurate tracking, organization, and reporting of inventory. Train team members on inventory procedures, METRC usage, compliance protocols, and operational standards. Assign and oversee daily inventory-related tasks including intake, audits, stock replenishment, cycle counts, and inventory investigations. Monitor employee performance and provide coaching, accountability, and corrective feedback when necessary. Collaborate with upper management regarding staffing, performance management, operational improvements, and disciplinary concerns when necessary. Build and maintain a culture of accountability, professionalism, urgency, organization, and operational excellence within the inventory department. Ensure all inventory staff adhere to Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission (CCC) regulations and company policies. Duties /
Responsibilities Inventory Oversight:
Manage all aspects of inventory including receiving, storing, tracking, reconciling, auditing, transferring, quarantining, and disposing of cannabis products. This also includes the oversight and management of the online menu, and ensuring all products are accurately displayed including testing, terpenes, description, and image. Oversee METRC seed-to-sale tracking and ensure all inventory data is accurately entered and reconciled. Conduct regular audits, cycle counts, discrepancy investigations, and inventory reconciliations. Develop and improve SOPs focused on maintaining inventory accuracy. Maintain organized inventory storage areas in accordance with CCC regulations and company standards. Monitor inventory levels and ensure proper stock rotation to maintain freshness, organization, and product quality. Oversee waste management, product destruction, quarantines, and inventory adjustment procedures.
Purchasing & Vendor Management:
Identify product needs based on sales trends, inventory movement, customer demand, and business goals. Establish and maintain strong working relationships with licensed cannabis vendors and suppliers. Manage wholesale purchasing and inventory replenishment across all product categories. Review vendor pricing, promotions, and product opportunities while maintaining profitability and inventory efficiency. Coordinate deliveries and verify accuracy of all received inventory. Prepare inventory data, sell-through reporting, and purchasing analysis for leadership meetings.
Compliance Management:
Ensure all inventory practices comply with Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission (CCC) regulations and company procedures. Maintain accurate records and documentation for state audits, inspections, and internal reviews. Ensure inventory team members are properly trained on compliance-related inventory procedures. Identify operational risks and proactively correct compliance concerns before escalation.
Operational Leadership:
Collaborate with management and sales floor teams to maintain accurate inventory availability and menu integrity. Identify operational inefficiencies and implement process improvements. Monitor low-stock, slow-moving, and overstocked inventory and develop action plans when necessary. Support overall operational execution during high-volume business periods. Act as a department leader capable of independently owning problems, resolving issues, and maintaining operational stability. Required Skills / Abilities Strong leadership, accountability, and people management skills. Ability to confidently handle difficult situations and maintain team accountability. Excellent communication skills for vendor relations, leadership discussions, and internal team management. Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail. Strong problem-solving and process improvement abilities. Ability to work calmly and decisively under pressure. Proactive, self-motivated, and operationally driven. Strong understanding of inventory control, operational structure, and compliance expectations. Physical ability to lift and move inventory regularly and work on feet for extended periods. Education & Experience Minimum of 2 years of inventory management experience required, preferably within cannabis, retail, logistics, or another regulated industry. Previous leadership or management experience required. Strong understanding of Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission (CCC) regulations preferred. Proficiency in METRC seed-to-sale tracking system or equivalent inventory management software preferred. Experience with wholesale purchasing, vendor communication, and inventory forecasting strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to lead teams, improve operational processes, and maintain accountability. Must be 21 years of age or older and able to pass all required Massachusetts background checks. Physical Requirements Must be 21 years of age or older. Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and move throughout the workday. Ability to lift and carry 45+ pound cases of product on a repetitive basis. Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.
