Material Planning & Logistics Manager 3.4 3.4 out of 5 stars Chelsea, MI Full-time Gestamp 2,192 reviews Full-time The Material Planning & Logistics (MP&L) Manager is responsible for customer service, material planning, production scheduling, receiving, shipping, material handling, inventory management and inventory control. The MP&L Manager leads, directs, and mentors the MP&L Team including Schedulers, Buyers, Materials Group Leaders, and other Materials Team Members. This candidate will define the facility MP&L strategy, optimizing material planning and logistics processes and systems to achieve lowest total cost and highly reliable delivery, aligning with Plant Leadership and North American Division objectives. The MP&L Manager develops and drives operational excellence through people & process-oriented leadership supported by lean logistics concepts. The MP&L Manager communicates customer demand to assure delivery of product to the customer at the right time, in the right quantity and in the right quality.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1.
Communicate and administer customer demand to assure delivery of quality products at the right time and in the right quantity; 2. Develop, implement, and manage policies and procedures necessary to ensure effective execution of material planning and logistics functions including: customer service, material planning, production scheduling, receiving, shipping, material handling, inventory management, and inventory control; 3. Ensure policies and procedures are in accordance with IATF standards; 4. Employ appropriate inventory management methods such as inventory cycle counts, inventory control systems, and corrective actions to maintain inventory accuracy; 5. Gather and analyze customer demand on daily, weekly, and monthly basis providing short and midterm production volume planning/forecast to plant leadership team and support S&OP; 6. Develop and monitor a single-point production schedule for all assets on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis; 7. Generate production plan per line, and communicate customer demand and available inventory to all internal operations; 8. Monitor and report daily production schedule attainment; 9. Ensure vendor material releases are timely and accurate, in compliance with inventory goals; 10. Drive continuous improvement activities for material handling and storage systems; 11. Implement, maintain, enhance, and ensure the use of ERP system (SAP); 12. Manage all material planning and logistics initiatives for new product launches and engineering changes; 13. Participate in maintenance planning activities to ensure PM's are completed in a timely manner; 14. Ensure information is updated on customer portals, meeting all customer logistics standards and/or requirements; 15. Manage customer expectations by constantly monitoring delivery performance, and promptly responding to customer inquiries; 16. Ensure service parts orders are achieved by following-up on requirements, scheduling production, and delivering to the customer; 17. Lead and/or support cross-functional continuous improvement activities such as 5S, Kaizen, material flow, SMED, etc.; 18. Understand and ensure compliance with all Environmental Health & Safety requirements; 19. Develop and attain departmental budgets; 20. Coach, inspire, and manage departmental talent, ensuring compliance with HR policies and procedures; 21. Develop and lead training initiatives for department team members; 22. Monitors Material Management KPI's and prepares in depth analysis and corrective action plans as needed; 23. Reports monthly Material Management / SAP related KPI's to Senior Management; 24. Other duties as assigned.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 1.
Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management or other related field and/or relevant experience; 2. APICS Certification a plus; 3. Minimum of three (3) years of experience directly managing material control activities, including exempt and non-exempt team members, in a manufacturing facility; 4. Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in supply chain, material management, production control, production scheduling, and procurement; 5. Demonstrated experience managing, mentoring, and coaching supply chain team members including initial hiring, skills assessment, performance management, and career development; 6. Experience with Lean Manufacturing methodologies (i.e. pull system, JIT, SMED, standardized work); 7. ERP (SAP) and MRP experience required (implementation and optimization experience a plus); 8. Supply chain experience working with Automotive OEMs 9. Familiarity with automotive standards (i.e. AIAG, VDA, MMOG/LE, Odette) 10. Experience working within automotive component stamping, welding, and paint manufacturing operations strongly preferred.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 1.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; 2. Demonstrated high level of interpersonal skills to effectively lead, motivate, and facilitate in group settings; 3. Excellent computer proficiency (MS office suite, ERP/MRP systems, web based tools); 4. Comfortable managing multiple tasks and competing priorities; 5. Positively motivating communication / people skills; 6. High level of analytical ability & comfortable in working with large sets of data to assess and identify appropriate alternative course of action for definition and resolution of issues, with a demonstrated ability to investigate problems, applying sound technical knowledge to conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions; 7. Ability to exercise independent judgment and critical thinking skills; 8. Ability to contribute in a collaborative, cross-functional environment; 9. Willingness to travel, valid driver's license and passport required.PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION 1.
