Position Summary:
The Director of Materials Planning and Logistics is responsible for leading the end-to-end materials strategy, including demand planning, procurement alignment, inventory optimization, warehousing, and logistics operations to support the manufacture and delivery of commercial HVAC equipment. This role drives enterprise-wide supply chain performance by ensuring material availability, optimizing working capital, and strengthening supplier and logistics networks. The Director partners cross-functionally to align supply chain strategies with business objectives, improve operational efficiency, and enhance customer satisfaction while leading continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Materials Planning & Inventory Leadership Develop and execute enterprise materials planning strategies aligned with production, sales forecasts, and customer demand. Oversee MRP processes and planning parameters to ensure accurate and efficient material flow across the organization. Establish inventory optimization strategies to balance service levels, working capital, and operational constraints. Drive advanced analytics for demand forecasting, inventory health, and capacity planning to prevent shortages, excess, and obsolescence. Define and govern inventory control processes, including cycle counting, physical inventories, and audit compliance. Procurement Alignment & Supplier Performance Partner with Strategic Sourcing and Procurement leadership to align sourcing strategies with operational requirements. Establish supplier performance frameworks, including KPIs for on-time delivery, quality, cost, and responsiveness. Lead supplier collaboration efforts to mitigate risk, improve capacity alignment, and drive continuous improvement. Oversee escalation management and develop contingency plans for supply disruptions. Support long-term supplier development and network optimization initiatives. Logistics & Distribution Optimization Lead inbound and outbound logistics strategies, including transportation, warehousing, and distribution network design. Optimize logistics costs, service levels, and delivery performance through carrier management and process improvements. Ensure efficient material flow from suppliers through production to customer delivery. Drive continuous improvement in warehouse operations, including layout, automation, and labor efficiency. Operations Integration & Execution Partner with Manufacturing, Engineering, Sales, and S&OP teams to align supply chain capabilities with business needs. Ensure material readiness for production schedules and new product introductions (NPI). Identify and mitigate constraints that may impact production, delivery, or customer commitments. Lead cross-functional initiatives to improve throughput, reduce lead times, and enhance operational agility. Systems, Analytics & Continuous Improvement Oversee the effective use and continuous improvement of ERP/MRP systems and supply chain technologies. Establish and monitor KPIs such as inventory turns, service levels, logistics costs, supplier performance, and material availability. Lead Lean, Six Sigma, and digital transformation initiatives across materials and logistics functions. Implement best practices in data governance, planning accuracy, and process standardization. Ensure compliance with corporate policies, quality standards, and regulatory requirements. Leadership & Organizational Development Build, lead, and develop high-performing teams across materials planning, inventory management, warehouse operations, and logistics. Define organizational structure, roles, and capabilities to support business growth and scalability. Set strategic objectives, performance targets, and accountability measures for the function. Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and operational excellence. Serve as a key member of the operations leadership team contributing to overall business strategy.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Business, Engineering, or related field. 10+ years of progressive supply chain, materials, or logistics experience within a manufacturing environment. 5+ years of leadership experience managing managers or cross-functional teams. Deep expertise in ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Epicor, Microsoft Dynamics). Proven track record of driving supply chain transformation, cost optimization, and service improvement.
Preferred:
Experience in HVAC, industrial equipment, or engineered-to-order manufacturing environments.
APICS/ASCM
certification (CPIM, CSCP) or equivalent. Experience with complex BOMs, configurable products, and multi-site operations. Knowledge of advanced planning systems (APS) and supply chain digital tools. MBA or advanced degree
