Job Summary The SPD & Materials Manager is responsible for overseeing all sterile processing operations, surgical instrumentation workflow, inventory management, purchasing, supply chain coordination, and materials distribution within the Surgery Center (ASC). This role ensures compliance with infection prevention standards, regulatory requirements, and operational efficiency while maintaining appropriate inventory levels and supporting safe patient care. Responsibilities Lead and coordinate all activities related to sterile processing, including sterilization, inventory control, and distribution of surgical instruments and materials. Monitors biological testing, sterilizer logs, temperature logs, and documentation. Oversees medical and surgical supply inventory for the ASC. Maintains appropriate PAR levels and inventory controls. Coordinates purchasing, receiving, stocking, and distribution of supplies. Monitors expiration dates and product rotation. Evaluates product utilization and identifies cost-saving opportunities. Works with vendors to negotiate pricing and maintain contracts. Coordinates implant and consignment inventory management. Ensures supplies are available for scheduled procedures.
Maintains compliance with:
AAMI standards CDC guidelines OSHA regulations CMS standards Joint Commission and/or AAAHC requirements Experience Minimum 3-5 years of sterile processing and/or materials management experience Prior ASC or surgical services experience preferred Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and sterilization standards Knowledge of inventory management systems and purchasing processes Strong organizational and communication skills Ability to multitask in a fast-paced surgical environment Computer proficiency, including EMR and inventory system Lean healthcare or supply chain experience preferred Orthopedic ASC experience strongly preferred Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods Ability to lift to 50 pounds Ability to push/pull supply carts and instrument trays Manual dexterity for handling surgical instruments Ability to work in decontamination and sterile environments
