Job Description

SUMTER COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM TITLE
Transportation Supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS
1. High School Diploma (Bachelor's degree in Transportation Administration preferred). 2. Five years' experience in transportation, including three years in a supervisory capacity, preferably in a school system. 3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO
Superintendent
SUPERVISES
Bus drivers, mechanics, and maintenance/janitorial personnel of Transportation Department.
JOB GOAL
To enable each student, through safe and efficient transportation, to take full advantage of the complete range of curricular and extracurricular activities offered by the Sumter County Schools.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Develops and administer a transportation program to meet all the requirements of the daily instructional program and extracurricular activities. 2. Prepares bus routes for all public schools in the Sumter County School System. 3. Prepares and updates bus schedules for all public schools in Sumter County School System. 4. Recruits, trains, and supervises all transportation personnel, and makes recommendations on their employment, transfer promotion, and release. 5. Maintains all system-owned equipment and develops plans for preventive maintenance, which includes a system for the receipt and issuance of parts and supplies, and the keeping of records and inventories. 6. Authorizes purchases in accordance with budgetary limitations and system rules. 7. Maintains safety standards in conformance with state and insurance regulations and develops a program of preventive safety. 8. Cooperates with school principals and other responsible for planning special school trips. 9. Develops recommendations for future equipment and personnel needs based on a survey of resident students, distances, and grade levels. 10. Conforms with all state laws and regulations regarding school transportation. 11. Submits all reports required by state and local officials to include insurance forms, budgets requisitions, etc. 12. Advises Superintendent on road hazards for decision on school closing during inclement weather. 13. Assumes other duties deemed necessary by the Superintendent.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Twelve month year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.
EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Sumter County Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
