Assistants in the administrator and supervisor of the transportation program and staff; plans bus routes, stops and schedules; coordinates transportation services for field trips, athletic events; dispatches drivers; evaluates assigned staff; prepares a variety of payroll and miscellaneous reports. Duties 1. Plan, organize, direct, and coordinate the operation of the transportation department; abiding by District policy and State law, establish bus routes and schedules, both regular and special education, field trips, special events, and other special transportation schedules. 2. Oversee and coordinate the maintenance, repair, servicing, and cleaning of District vehicles and buses; make recommendations and/or decision related to the same. 3. Perform personnel administrative functions such as recruiting, interviewing, training, supervising, and evaluating for the purpose of maintaining necessary staffing, enhancing the productivity of staff, and ensuring necessary department/program outcomes are achieved. 4. Address safety concerns; assess incidents, complaints, and/or accidents for the purpose of resolution. Investigate transportation and staff complaints in collaboration with Human Resources and/or Risk Management as appropriate. 5. Provide direct driver training activities for staff and/or volunteers who drive pupils, including but not limited to providing pre-trip inspections, safe loading/unloading of passengers, proper use of seatbelts, defensive driving, and operation in inclement weather instruction pursuant to Education Code 49406 et seq. (Senate Bill 88); conduct and facilitate meetings. 6. Respond to emergency situations and bus accidents; advise on hazards from inclement weather and road closures for the purpose of assuring the safe transporting of students. 7. Act as a back-up bus driver when necessary and support the coordination of substitute drivers if needed; 8. Maintain working relationships and act as a liaison with various public agencies (i.e. California Highway Patrol, Department of Motor Vehicles, California Department of Education - Office of School Transportation, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring compliance with current regulatory standards and conveying and/or gathering required information. 9. Assist with the recommendation of updates to policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws and regulations and collective bargaining agreements. Ensure departmental compliance with various licensing and certification requirements, including but not limited to attending a variety of meetings and workshops to maintain current knowledge of legislation, legal codes, and requirements. 10. Communicate with parents, community, administrators and teachers on routine conflicts and issues in transportation for the purpose of resolving or recommending a resolution to the issues. 11. Oversee execution of assigned budgets as directed. 12. Maintain accurate and current records of operations; prepare oral and written reports as necessary to various audiences including the public, Governing Board, and district personnel. 13. Use telephone and two-way radio extensively in daily operations. 14. Grant writing. 15. Upon direction, attend Board meetings, prepare and present information at Board meetings as requested. 16. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements/Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent. Experience:
Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a school bus driver, driving instructor, office manager of transportation services, or a related field, including two years of supervisory experience. Required Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing:
Valid California Driver's License (Class B or higher) Valid Minimum Liability Car Insurance Passenger/School Bus Driver Endorsement (or ability to obtain within 6 months) Valid School Bus Driver Certificate (or ability to obtain within 6 months) Valid Medical Examiner's Certificate TB Test Clearance Current First Aid Certificate acceptable to CA Highway Patrol (ability to obtain within 6 months of employment) Air Brake Endorsement Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance REQUIREMENT
