Prioritizes and assigns staff work orders and tasks for operation and maintenance of the city's traffic signal system.
Supervises section staff by providing day-to-day direction and guidance, training, coaching and mentoring, planning and delegating work assignments, assessing performance, providing performance feedback, administering corrective actions, and determining employment actions such as scheduling, hiring, terminating and salary change decisions.
Contributes technical information to strategic plans and reviews; implements productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; identifies system improvements.
Procures equipment from approved vendors and maintains adequate inventory for replacement/repair in accordance with city purchasing policies through Cartegraph (OpenGov) asset management system.
Monitors operating budget and ensures expenditures do not exceed available budget; identifies variances; implements corrective actions; provides annual operating and capital budget information.
Makes recommendations for contract services and supervises work completed by vendors.
Manages the annual Traffic Signal Heavy Maintenance Contract. Coordinates repairs with contractors and other city departments to ensure work is properly completed within standards and codes. Maintains documentation and requests payments to the contractor based on invoice submittals.
Coordinates work with contractors, subcontractors, utilities, other agencies, and other city departments.
Maintains records of labor, equipment, and materials used in daily operations.
Coordinates with citizens regarding requests for service and complaints; investigates and resolves thoroughly and expeditiously.
Serves as a high-level technical resource, providing diagnostic guidance and performing complex repairs only as needed to support field staff or during emergency response situations.
Oversees the construction and assembly of major traffic signal components, such as pedestal pole assemblies and controller cabinets, ensuring quality control and adherence to engineering standards.
Provides emergency backup for field operations, including the troubleshooting and repair of signal malfunctions during critical system failures or staffing shortages to ensure public safety.
Performs specialized field work on an exception basis, such as complex cabinet wiring or interpretative plan analysis, to resolve issues exceeding the standard scope of technician duties.
Maintains field-readiness to support the Traffic Signal Heavy Maintenance Contract and CDOT-related construction projects, ensuring all physical work meets city and state codes through periodic inspection and technical intervention.
Reviews signal design plans and material submittals for signal construction.
Coordinates with CDOT on construction and rebuilding of traffic signals on state highways.
Ensures compliance with applicable codes, laws, regulations, rules, standards, policies and procedures, and safety procedures.
Remains abreast of opportunities for new technology and recommends implementation, as appropriate.
Observes all common safety practices associated with tools and equipment, monitoring work environment for safety and hazards, and ensure safety for self and others.
Performs other duties as assigned.
License/Certification/RegistrationValid Colorado driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle recordIMSA Traffic Signal Senior Field Tech L3 certificationPrefer IMSA Traffic Signal Inspector certification. Certification will need to be acquired within one (1) year of hire.
Prefer Colorado Commercial Drivers License (CDL).Ongoing training to maintain appropriate levels of International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) certification.
