Assist the Transportation Director to direct the daily operations of the transportation department, ensuring a safe, efficient, and economical transportation program.Qualifications:
Possess or ability to acquire a valid passenger CDL license with passenger and school bus endorsement Knowledge of computer programs Strong knowledge of bus maintenance Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of educators, parents, and community members. Commitment to promoting a positive and inclusive school environment.Preferred Qualifications:
Previous bus experience Supervisory skills Experience with computer scheduling programs Problem solving and conflict resolution Knowledge of current school transportation laws and safety regulations.Responsibilities:
Develop and adjust bus routes and schedules, coordinate daily dispatch, manage field trips/activity transport and arrange substitutes Establish a preventative maintenance program, scheduling buses for necessary repair work to minimize down time. Arrange bus routes to prevent overloading of buses and keeping riding time within legal limits, improving routes were possible by consolidation, re-routing or extension Develop and maintain a system of records covering all phases of the transportation system. Adhere to state/federal laws, manage vehicle inspections, driver certification and oversee accident/incident resolution. Order repair parts, equipment, and other supplies. Maintain a thorough inventory of supplies and repair costs. Coordinate major repair items or replacements (such as engines and equipment for maintenance) through consultation with the superintendent. Maintain records (driver files, logs, maintenance), prepare reports, manage budget for the transportation program. Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise and evaluate drivers Serve as liaison with district administration, parents and the public.Educational Responsibilities:
Keep drivers informed concerning laws and regulations. Work with principals and teachers in developing and providing an active safety program for bus riders. Review routes for possible hazards. Disseminate information to drivers, parents, schools, and media concerning school bus operation. Attend and participate in safety and highway group meetings. Work cooperatively with local and state police, highway departments, state agencies, and all their organizations working to improve safety on the highway. Work with building principals in organizing a system to facilitate loading, controlling conduct, conducting safety evacuation drills, instructing pupils on passenger safety, etc. Supervises the performance of all bus drivers. Symbolic Responsibilities Observe the entire operation of the transportation system by riding/following the buses, being present at or near loading areas at school and at other places along route. Attends school activities when accompanying groups on school trips. Maintains a high standard of conduct. Displays integrity on the job at all times. Models appropriate behavior for passengers and adults. Cultural Creates a cheerful atmosphere for all bus drivers. Contributes to the harmony and unity within the department. Creates two-way communications among drivers. Supports the mission of the school district.Employment Information:
