Job Summary:
This position is responsible for managing the district's student transportation program and acting as a liaison between families and the transportation company.

Job Duties:
Collaborates with the district transportation vendor on bus route scheduling, distribution of route materials. Develops, maintains and monitors a record keeping system for routing issues, concerns and changes. Assists district router with routing issues, concerns or changes as needed. Compiles information and files non-public student transportation claims. Compiles information and files annual transportation reports with the Department of Education. Compiles information for Board meetings. Coordinates with Student Services for summer school bus transportation. Coordinates the communication of bus route materials for the start of the school year. Communicates with families and the community in the event of route disruption. Investigates and resolves parent and staff complaints. Handles calls from parents regarding Durham issues involving staff or safety concerns. Communicates with parents, staff, students and Durham employees in a respectful manner. Informs the Director of Operational Services and Superintendent of potential problems or unusual events in a timely manner. Monitors bus schedules (including riding routes) for on-time deliveries, late arrivals or other issues and adjusts routes as necessary. Records and reviews data on Durham staffing complaints including timing of bus routes (on time vs late) Reviews video footage as needed surrounding complaints from Durham, district or parents. Communicates with Durham to ensure day-to-day operations run smoothly. Ensures safe, efficient, effective and responsive transportation service is being provided. Reviews billing of hours to ensure expenditures are accurate. Communicates with school building administration on timing issues with buses or any other issues as needed. Coordinates with Dispatch to establish route standards for time and miles. Works with bus service personnel to identify and address issues with bus routes and service. Collaborates with Durham to resolve routing issues efficiently and effectively. Ensures accurate and timely communication of bus routes to all stakeholders. Provides assistance as needed for scheduling athletic, activity and special event buses. Investigates other transportation options for field trips or after hours activities as needed. Responds to emergency situations on the road as they arise, coordinating alternate transportation as necessary. Communicates with the School & Community Relations Department on any district transportation accidents and follows district/department protocols as necessary. Ensures compliance with special needs students' transportation requirements. Coordinates with other districts and communities as necessary. Investigates new transportation options and collaborates with outside agencies as needed. Researches, learns and implements new student transportation concepts and best practices. Explores training opportunities for transportation drivers and monitors. Monitors operations to ensure efficient performance in compliance with the regulations, policies, guidelines and procedures. Analyzes district transportation needs and recommends ideas for developing, implementing, improving or expanding existing transportation services, programs and policies. Prepares and maintains all required reports and records. Oversees district van drivers, monitors and athletic drivers to ensure safe and efficient operations. Coordinates coverage to fill transportation positions when staff absences occur to maintain uninterrupted services. Manages and coordinates district vehicle inspections to ensure compliance with the Department of Education (DOE) regulations and requirements. Performs other duties as assigned or as requested by the District.
