To develop and administer a total school transportation and administrative service program. Qualifications Education Associate's degree in transportation management, business administration, education, or related field required. High school diploma with substantial, directly related experience may be considered. Indiana Association of School Business Officials (IASBO) Certification Experience Minimum 3 years in school administration or transportation leadership. 6+ years in transportation operations, including route planning, fleet management, regulatory compliance, and staff supervision. Experience in student transportation and school district operations preferred.Core Competencies Leadership & Supervision:
Ability to manage transportation staff and implement district policies.Regulatory Compliance & Safety:
Knowledge of federal, state, and local transportation laws; emergency preparedness; special needs transportation.Operational Management:
Route optimization, fleet oversight, and performance management.Budget & Fiscal Oversight:
Experience with budgeting, procurement, and cost control.Communication:
Strong written and verbal communication with families, staff, and stakeholders.Problem-Solving:
Effective decision-making in high-pressure operational environments. Preferred Certification Certified Director of Pupil Transportation (CDPT) through the National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) or equivalent credential. Duties and Responsibilities Assure compliance with all State Department laws and all Board of Education policies and regulations of the Superintendent relating to transportation. Plan, direct and supervise the total transportation program. Prepare annual transportation and safety procedures. Oversee and supervise all bus schedules. Recruit, train and supervise bus drivers and other transportation personnel. Develop and administer in-service transportation safety programs for bus drivers, teachers and building administrators who have responsibility for transportation. Work with Administration building administrators on transportation and safety programs. Investigate and follow-up on complaints concerning transportation including complaints against employees. Investigate all accident and traffic violations. Prepare reports on various phases of safety and transportation programs. Recommend and prepare specifications for new buses and other equipment. Assist in the preparation and supervision of a preventative maintenance program. Coordinate cooperative transportation between school districts. Continually evaluate the safety and transportation programs and recommend improvements. Drug and alcohol training and testing. Procure grant funding for all aspects of transportation. Compliance with ISP and inspections. Performs such other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent. Working Conditions and Physical Environment Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; hear and understand speech at normal levels; physical agility to lift up to 50 pounds; to bend, to stoop, to sit on the floor, to climb stairs, to walk and to reach overhead.
