Programs Director Position Description:
Rescue Coordinator Summary Coordinate and facilitate transfers to local and out-of-state rescue groups. Work with various departments to identify animals that can be placed in rescue. Essential Job Functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned Maintain detailed, up-to-date records for all rescue groups and rescued animals. Identify, research, and recommend new rescue and transport partners. Maintain positive relationships with rescue and transport partners. Provide excellent customer service to rescue partners, coworkers, volunteers, and shelter visitors. Contact and coordinate the transfer of animals to in and out-of-state shelters. Coordinate health certificate issuance. Coordinate all aspects of transport arrangements to out of state rescue partners. Observe and assess animal behavior and conduct dog meet and greets. Determine the best rescue partner based on animal behavior, breed, medical condition, etc. Handle animals in a safe and humane manner. Walk and monitor dogs in play yards. Assist with holding animals for vaccines or medical tests. Answer phone calls, emails, and social media responses from potential rescuers in a prompt, professional and informative manner. Call, email, and use social media to communicate with rescue groups about available shelter animals and assist rescue groups with animal selection. Coordinate social media posts and email blasts in order to generate interest in hard-to-place animals. Handle all customers in a polite and professional manner. Coordinate and assist in loading all animals for transports via ground and air. Assist with providing care for animals leaving for transport. Work closely and communicate with the transport assistant. Maintain accurate rescue and transfer databases in PetPoint.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Minimum of high school diploma and 1+ years experience in animal-related field. Must be able to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to read and interpret policies and procedures. Must demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills; customer service oriented. Must be organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to multitask. Ability to learn and quickly adapt to changes in programs and procedures. Working knowledge of breeds, diseases, medical conditions, and animal handling and behavior. Must be able to administer vaccines and run medical tests needed for transport animals. CAET is required within 1 year of employment Be safe and confident around all dog sizes and behaviors (i.e., fearful, aggressive, etc.) Knowledge and ability to accurately work with detailed information in paper and computerized format. Ability to have a flexible schedule. Ability to meet physical demands. Must have a valid Louisiana driver's license. Must have a
High School Diploma or GED Physical Demands:
The work is performed in all areas of the shelter. Typical positions require workers to walk or stand for short to moderate periods; lift and carry up to 40 pounds, climb stairs, bend, reach, hold, grasp, and turn objects. Employees will be required to follow any other job related duties required by their supervisor. This is a full time position.
