Position Overview:
The Transportation Manager is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the seamless and efficient operation of Transportation Operations. Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, this position requires strategic oversight and daily management of the Transportation department, ensuring the highest standards of operational efficiency, safety, and service delivery. This role serves the Amherst, Pelham, and Amherst-Pelham Regional Public Schools, aligning with the district's commitment to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and diverse educational environment. As a cornerstone of our community, the Transportation Manager will play a pivotal role in maintaining an environment where students, staff, and families thrive. Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Development:
Lead the Transportation team, promoting a culture of accountability, excellence, and continuous professional growth. Mentor staff and provide regular feedback to foster a supportive and positive work environment.
Transportation Operations:
Manage the safe and efficient operation of student transportation services, including route planning, route optimization, bus stop assignments, and daily routing adjustments to ensure timely and reliable service. Oversee fleet maintenance, monitor transportation performance, and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local safety regulations. Ensure all employees are fully qualified, adhering to Department of Transportation guidelines and other state/county regulations.
Vehicle Management:
Oversee daily vehicle assignments and ensure vehicle safety and fitness by coordinating with the vehicle services department or local maintenance vendors to maintain operational standards.
Resource Allocation & Budget Management:
Optimize staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation across transportation services to maximize operational efficiency. Assist with development and management of departmental budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility while maximizing resources for success.
Policy Development & Implementation:
Create, enforce, and refine policies that improve operational efficiency, elevate service standards, and ensure accountability across the department.
Stakeholder Engagement & Community Relations:
Serve as the primary liaison between district leadership, staff, families, and external partners, addressing challenges, solving problems, and enhancing service delivery. Actively engage with the community to ensure services meet the diverse needs of the district.
Performance Monitoring & Long-Term Planning:
Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate operational effectiveness, such as compliance with on-time transportation rates. Contribute to long-term strategic planning, identifying innovation opportunities, and recommending service improvements. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
A bachelor's degree in operations management, business administration, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent experience in transportation management may be considered. Knowledge of transportation management. Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Familiarity with safety regulations and compliance requirements.
Expertise & Skills:
In-depth knowledge of school district transportation operations, Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining excellent organizational standards, time management, and attention to detail. Strong leadership abilities with a focus on problem-solving, decision-making, and staff development. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with various stakeholders, including district staff, families, and external partners. Expertise in budget management, resource allocation, and ensuring financial prudence. Comprehensive knowledge of safety regulations, compliance requirements, and best practices in transportation.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite. Familiarity with vehicle safety standards, Department of Transportation regulations, and compliance requirements.
Working Conditions:
Full-time, Central Office-based role with occasional travel to school sites. Availability for evening or weekend work as needed. Compensation:
Salary Range:
$70,000-$85,000 annual salary Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications.
