General Description:
Assists with the development, planning, implementation and monitoring of school bus routes and the safe transportation of children to and from school and school activities within established regulations and guidelines; collects and prepares monthly reports on students, buses, miles, programs and others, as needed.

Essential Job Functions:
Assists with establishing and monitoring bus routes, including special programs; adjusts routes as necessary during the school year; field tests schedules and routes; determines mileage of routes; communicates all bus activities; serves as radio dispatcher and includes using appropriate protocol for reporting accidents. Recommends drivers to routes; receives calls from drivers and parents; secures substitutes; allocates resources as directed; works with other departments, school officials and staff to assist with identifying and correcting problems. Uses the routing and mapping software to answer questions and to plan and adjust school bus routes and stops; maintains transportation routes on the web site. Maintains records of routes, drivers, absences, mileage, daily reports, etc.; prepares reports as necessary; assists supervisor with filing and preparing reports, posting payroll and distributing information. Performs the duties of school bus drivers and office manager, when necessary. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Collects data and prepares monthly reports regarding students, buses, miles and programs; maintains school bus breakdown/road call log and driver absence database and prepares reports, as needed; other reports, as requested.
Equipment Operation:
Office equipment such as computer, printer, adding machine, copier, fax, multi-line telephone and radio communication.
Contacts:
Daily contact drivers-buses, routes, stops, students, road conditions. Frequent contact with police-incidents or accidents; department of transportation-road conditions; parents and schools-changes to stops, route, driver, bus number; training supervisor-incidents or accidents.
Work Direction:
Provides direction to drivers related to bus stops, routes, schedule changes and other work as directed by the supervisor.

Independently directs the coverage of routes in the event of driver absence, incidents or breakdowns.

The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop or kneel. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
The incumbent regularly works in an office environment. The noise level is quiet to moderate.
Qualifications:
Working knowledge of transportation planning, scheduling and operations, county geography and office procedures; safe and defensive driving methods and first aid procedures including CPR. Some knowledge of personnel policies, including confidentiality; state and local school bus operation laws and regulations. Working skill in the use of a personal computer, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, mapping and routing, and web-based route posting; accident protocol and reporting procedures. Demonstrated ability to operate a large vehicle safely and punctually in all weather conditions; to work effectively with drivers, children, parents and staff. Demonstrated ability to work under stressful conditions or emergencies and to plan, organize and work independently; to assist with training others. Demonstrated ability to analyze data, establish efficient routes and identify and correct problems.
Additional Job Requirements:
Valid Commercial Driver's License required, with appropriate school bus and passenger endorsements. This position requires the incumbent to drive a school bus or county vehicle as needed. In accordance with Policy 5431, an employee who occupies the position and is assigned a district-owned or leased motor vehicle will be subject to annual driving checks and must maintain acceptable records pursuant to the standards set forth in the policy. First aid and CPR courses; Defensive Driving Course. Meets physical qualifications for school bus drivers.
