We have completed hundreds of construction projects for major communications providers across the United States. Underground Contractors, Inc. (UCI) is hiring a Fleet Manager for our Wixom MI location. This role is responsible for ensuring that vehicles are maintained, costs are minimized, and logistics are optimized. This position requires strong organizational skills, excellent communication, and ability to manage employees based at different locations. Key Responsibilities Supervise daily operations of the vehicle fleet, including scheduling, routing, and allocation. Monitor vehicle utilization and performance to optimize efficiency. Selecting and negotiating the purchase or lease of vehicles that meet business needs and determining the best time to sell or retire vehicles.
Maintenance and Safety:
Coordinate regular maintenance and inspections to ensure vehicles remain in safe, operational condition. Implement safety protocols and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Budgeting and Cost Control:
Manage fleet budgets, including fuel, maintenance, repairs, insurance, and licensing. Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety or service quality.
Vendor and Contractor Relations:
Negotiate contracts with vehicle suppliers, maintenance providers, and transport vendors. Maintain strong relationships with service providers to ensure timely and quality service.
Reporting and Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of fleet operations, maintenance schedules, and compliance documentation. Generate reports on fleet performance, expenses, and efficiency metrics for review of the Directors.
Team Leadership:
Management of all fleet staff, including mechanics, drivers, and administrators. Conduct training and coaching to enhance safety standards, operational efficiency, and professional development. Qualifications Proven experience (typically 5+ years) in fleet management or a related role. Knowledge of vehicle maintenance, safety regulations, and transportation compliance. Exceptional organizational and leadership skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Proficiency with fleet management software- Verizon Connect and Microsoft Office Suite. Valid driver's license; CDL-A preferred.
