To Be Determined Job Description Assistant Director•Transportation Application Details This job is on a 256 day calendar, with paid vacation, personal and sick time. Start date is July 1, 2026. Purpose Statement The job of Assistant Director•Transportation is done for the purpose/s of supporting the educational process with specific responsibilities for assisting the Director of Transportation in the daily operations of the department; directly supervising student transportation services and activities; overseeing assigned personnel and providing information to others. This job reports to Director-Transportation Essential Functions Assesses incidents, complaints and/or accidents for the purpose of reaching and/or recommending a resolution. Assists the Director in the operations of the transportation department (e.g. problem solving between departments, resolving parent, student and/or employee issues, etc) for the purpose of achieving overall objectives of the department. Oversees and manages all student discipline related to bus misconducts, including the investigation of violations of Board Policy and assigning discipline/bus suspensions. Communicates and partners frequently with all stakeholders, including parents and school administrators, to ensure the safe operation of school buses. Conducts investigations of student violations of Board Policy, often partnering with school administration, for the purpose of determining what happened, assigning consequences and putting in safeguards to prevent misconduct in the future. Maintains a variety of confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic files and records (e.g. personnel records, seniority listings, fuel usage, etc.) for the purpose of providing up-to-date information and/or historical reference in accordance with established guidelines and legal requirements. Supports the ongoing behavior management attempts on school buses for the purpose of ensuring safe transportation and reducing discipline referrals. Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions. Performs the job functions and a bus driver as needed for the purpose of delivering services and achieving departmental objectives. Assumes the duties of the Director in their absence for the purpose of maintaining transportation operations in an efficient and timely manner. Perfoms personnel administrative functions (e.g. training, supervising, evaluating, providing professional development opportunities, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining necessary staffing, enhancing productivity of staff, and ensuring necessary department/program outcomes are achieved. Prepares a variety of materials (e.g. weekly payroll, procedures, manuals, billings, fuel usage forms, month end reports, pretrip inspections, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, requests and issues, providing audit references, and/or meeting complicance actions. Reccomends policies, procedures, and/or actions for the purpose of providing direction for meeting the District's goals and objectives. Responds to a wide variety of staff, District personnel, parents, students (e.g.resolving problems, providing information and/or referring to appropriate personnel, etc) for the purpose of identifying the relevant issues and recommending or implementing plans of action that efficiently resolves the issues. Other Functions Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Cross train in all other office staff related functions, including training, routing and dispatch.

Minimum Qualifications Must be able to obtain CDL with bus driver endorsement Must pass drug test and background check Skills, Knowledge and Abilities SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying curriculum and instructional techniques; enforcing discipline policies; planning and managing projects; and analyzing data.
KNOWLEDGE
is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based compentencies required to satisfactorily perform the funcions of the job include: methods of instruction and training; practices of personnel administration; provisions of the motor vehicle code and the educational code applicable to the operation of vehicles transporting school students; and state licensing requirements. ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work independently with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: meeting deadlines and schedules; reading and understanding maps; and maintaining records. Responsibility Responsibilities include: working independently under broad organizational guidelines to achieve unit objectives; directing other persons within a small work unit; directing the use of budgeted funds within a work unit. Utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perfom the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to impact the organization's services. Working Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 80% sitting, 15% walking, and 5% standing. The job is performed in a generally hazard free environment.
