05/11/2026 Description This is a 12-month full-time position which may involve day and some evening and weekend work. The Director for Public Safety and Transportation is responsible for the planning, delivery, and evaluation of courses for all public safety and transportation-related programs within the Division of Continuing Education. Duties include, but are not limited to: providing leadership in the identification and implementation of new course offerings, participating in the regular evaluation of all programs to ensure educational quality and a positive student experience, maintaining all equipment in support of programs as well as provide reports to ensure appropriate resources, supplies, and equipment are available to maintain the continuity of instruction; recruiting, supervising, and evaluating public safety and transportation-related program employees; and performing other duties, as assigned.

May 31, 2026, or open until filled.
Starting Date:
July 6, 2026.
Standard Working Hours:
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (occasional night and weekends).
Salary:
Final salary determination based upon education and experience. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma required. Five (5) years of professional experience in public safety or the transportation industry, required. Associate degree or higher, preferred. Prior supervisory experience, preferred. Prior teaching and/or supervising adult education training programs, preferred. General Instructor certification, as issued by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission, preferred. Prior experience teaching basic law enforcement training as a qualified assistant or serving as a school director, preferred. Supplemental Information Official transcripts, including other documentation verifying all reported educational qualifications, are required. Unofficial transcripts will be accepted for application purposes. The successful candidate must provide official transcripts at his or her expense within thirty (30) days of being notified of selection.
