Primary base at our terminal in Albuquerque, NM (or specify your city), with supervisory responsibility for drivers and operations throughout New Mexico and Southern Colorado.Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced, hands on Assistant Driver Manager to support the leadership of a fleet of up to 80-90 professional Class A & B drivers operating across New Mexico and Southern Colorado. This is a hybrid leadership role that combines strategic oversight of scheduling, compliance, payroll accuracy, training, and labor relations with the ability and willingness to personally cover routes when needed. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, unionized trucking environment and is committed to safety, driver satisfaction, and operational excellence.Key Responsibilities :
Provide day-to-day supervision and performance management for up to 80 unionized Class A and B drivers statewide. Ensure strict compliance with all FMCSA regulations (HOS, ELD, driver qualification files, drug & alcohol programs, etc.) Train new and existing drivers on company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety protocols, TMS and ELD usage, and union-related policies Oversee driver scheduling, dispatch coordination, and load planning using the company's Transportation Management System (TMS) Review and verify driver payroll accuracy, including hours, mileage, accessorials, detention, layover, union premiums, and deductions. Enforce company policies and work rules; administer progressive discipline and corrective action in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement Monitor performance metrics, fatigue management, and CSA scores; implement coaching and corrective plans as needed Conduct ride-alongs, safety observations, and one-on-one driver coaching Be willing and able to cover local, regional, or OTR routes (including nights, weekends, and holidays) when shortages occur Assist with driver recruiting, onboarding, training programs, and retention initiatives Collaborate with safety, maintenance, payroll, and recruiting teams to maintain operational readiness and driver satisfaction Prepare reports and participate in leadership meetings on safety, compliance, staffing, payroll, and operational performanceRequired Qualifications :
Active Class A CDL with Clean Driving Record Minimum 3 years of OTR or regional truck driving experience Minimum 3 years of supervisory/leadership experience in transportation or logistics Proven experience managing unionized employees and interpreting collective bargaining agreements In-depth working knowledge of FMCSA regulations and Hours of Service Hands-on experience with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) for scheduling and dispatch Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, payroll systems, fleet management software) Excellent communication, conflict-resolution, and problem-solving skills Ability and willingness to work flexible hours and travel throughoutNew Mexico and Southern Colorado Preferred Qualifications :
Previous driver management or dispatch experience in a union environment Familiarity with McLeod, TMW, Peoplenet, or similar TMS platforms Safety/compliance certifications (CDS, Smith System, etc.) Bilingual English /Spanish Compensation & Benefits :
