TRANSPORTATION MANAGER
Position Summary:
The Transportation Manager supports the Director of Transportation in planning, coordinating, and implementing all transportation operations, including bus scheduling, routing, dispatching, compliance, and communication systems. This role ensures safe, efficient, and cost-effective transportation services aligned with district goals.
Core Leadership Responsibilities:
Great Learning (Instructional Infrastructure) Assist in developing and implementing transportation policies, programs, and procedures, including schedules, routes, and driver assignments. Conduct ongoing analysis of vehicle and driver utilization to optimize routes and maximize efficiency. Ensure transportation operations support instructional priorities and minimize disruptions to learning. Develop systematic routing plans for summer school and special programs. Great People (Talent Development) Provide guidance and support to transportation staff, contractors, and vendors in daily and strategic operations. Assist in developing and implementing safety and training programs for drivers and staff. Address complaints and inquiries from parents, school administrators, and contractors promptly and professionally. Great Systems (Support & Accountability) Maintain and monitor transportation tracking systems and records to ensure accuracy and effectiveness. Assist in preparing and managing the annual transportation budget, ensuring compliance with financial responsibilities. Oversee driver communication systems, resolve technical issues, and recommend cost-control measures. Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and district policies related to school transportation. Great Culture (Service & Equity) Promote safe and equitable transportation services for all students. Collaborates with School Safety Services to monitor road conditions and assist with school closure decisions during inclement weather. Work with building administrators and drivers to manage student behavior on buses. Act as liaison with support departments to ensure compliance and successful completion of district projects. Perform other duties as assigned. Job Specifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities Required): Bachelor's degree in Transportation Management, Logistics, Education, Business Administration, or a related field required. Minimum five (5) years of experience in transportation operations or logistics management. Minimum three (3) years of supervisory experience. Minimum of two (2) years of experience with student behavior management. Knowledge of DOT regulations and school transportation compliance requirements. Ability to analyze routes, schedules, and operational data for efficiency improvements. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to systematically gather and analyze information to make sound judgment resolutions. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record per district insurance requirements. "•Relevant experience may be substituted for formal education at a 2:1 ratio. Therefore for every 1 year of college lacking, 2 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted."
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Transportation Management, Logistics, Education, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. Proficiency in transportation management systems and related technology.
