This is the most senior leadership position at the location and will be responsible for the overall performance, safety, staffing, fleet readiness, service execution, and administrative success of the business. The General Manager will oversee a team of 25+ drivers and work closely with assistant managers, terminal staff, maintenance partners, and company leadership to ensure that every route is properly staffed, every vehicle is ready, every driver is prepared, and every operational requirement is completed with excellence. This role is ideal for a leader who thrives in a fast-paced logistics environment, takes ownership of results, communicates clearly, leads from the front, and understands that safety, service quality, and operational discipline are non-negotiable. The General Manager will be employed by Hembree Cargo Inc., an independent FedEx Ground contractor. This position is not employment with FedEx. Key ResponsibilitiesOperational Leadership Lead, manage, and develop a team of 25+ delivery drivers and support personnel. Oversee the daily execution of the full delivery operation, including dispatch readiness, route coverage, driver communication, vehicle availability, service performance, and end-of-day completion. Ensure all routes are properly staffed, dispatched, monitored, and completed each day. Maintain strong working relationships with terminal staff, assistant managers, company leadership, drivers, and operational partners. Serve as the primary on-site leader responsible for the performance, professionalism, and execution of the location. Identify operational issues quickly and implement practical solutions to protect service, safety, and business performance. Lead daily morning meetings with drivers to review expectations, service priorities, safety focus areas, operational updates, and performance goals. Conduct weekly management meetings and assist in completing monthly performance reviews. Safety and Compliance Build and maintain a safety-first culture throughout the operation. Ensure drivers understand and follow all company safety standards, vehicle inspection procedures, safe driving expectations, and applicable regulatory requirements. Confirm that drivers complete required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections. Monitor driver behavior, safety performance, vehicle condition, and route execution to reduce accidents, injuries, service failures, and preventable risk. Address unsafe behavior immediately and hold team members accountable to the highest safety standards. Ensure required driver documents, vehicle inspection records, and operational records are completed accurately and timely. Support compliance with all applicable company policies, customer requirements, transportation standards, and legal requirements. Fleet Readiness and Vehicle Management Ensure all vehicles are maintained, road-ready, and available for daily operations. Coordinate repairs, preventive maintenance, inspections, and urgent vehicle issues with mechanics, vendors, and company leadership. Track vehicle downtime and proactively communicate fleet issues that may impact route performance. Ensure vehicles are clean, safe, properly equipped, and ready for daily dispatch. Develop contingency plans for vehicle breakdowns, staffing shortages, peak volume, weather delays, and other operational disruptions. People Leadership and Driver Development Recruit, interview, onboard, train, coach, and retain qualified drivers and operational support staff. Set clear expectations and hold team members accountable for performance, attendance, safety, professionalism, and service quality. Provide regular coaching and feedback to improve driver performance and team morale. Create a professional work environment where employees understand expectations, feel supported, and are motivated to perform at a high level. Partner with leadership on disciplinary actions, performance improvement plans, staffing decisions, and employee development. Promote a culture of ownership, urgency, respect, and consistent communication. Administrative and Back-Office Responsibilities Complete required FedEx-related tasks, company administrative responsibilities, and daily/weekly reporting. Maintain accurate records related to staffing, attendance, route completion, vehicle readiness, safety, inspections, payroll support, performance, and operational issues. Communicate clearly with dispatch, terminal staff, drivers, assistant managers, and company leadership regarding delivery issues, delays, service risks, and daily results. Support payroll review, driver documentation, onboarding paperwork, incident reports, maintenance records, and operational compliance files. Monitor key performance indicators and take action to improve safety, service, efficiency, and profitability. Qualifications Prior management, operations, logistics, transportation, fleet, package delivery, or terminal leadership experience strongly preferred. FedEx Ground, UPS, Amazon DSP, trucking, parcel delivery, courier, or last-mile logistics experience strongly preferred. 5+ years of logistics, transportation, fleet, delivery, or related operational experience preferred. Proven ability to lead teams, manage people, solve problems, and maintain accountability in a fast-paced environment. Strong understanding of route operations, driver management, vehicle readiness, safety expectations, and service execution. Ability to communicate professionally with drivers, managers, terminal staff, vendors, and company leadership. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities under time-sensitive conditions. Excellent judgment, professionalism, urgency, and attention to detail. Ability to lead by example and maintain composure during high-pressure operational situations. Valid driver's license required. Must have an acceptable motor vehicle record if driving duties are required. Must be able to complete all required post-offer screening and eligibility requirements, which may include a background check, motor vehicle record review, drug screen, and DOT physical/medical certification if applicable. Ability to occasionally assist with route operations, package handling, or vehicle movement when business needs require, with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to lift, move, or assist with packages up to 150 lbs. with appropriate equipment, including a hand truck, when operationally necessary.
