Job Description

Our Route Manager is responsible for leading and developing the route team to ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality service across all vending, micro market, pantry, and office coffee service (OCS) accounts. This role oversees daily route operations, supports drivers in executing their service responsibilities, monitors performance metrics, and drives continuous improvement in customer service, product availability, merchandising quality, and route efficiency. The ideal candidate excels in leadership, communication, coaching, problem-solving, and operational execution. They understand how to service all Evergreen product lines (Markets, Coffee, Pantry, Vending), maintain high safety and compliance standards, and lead their team toward consistent, professional service.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Leadership & Oversight Oversee all Route Drivers, Relief Drivers, Route Merchandisers, and Route Supervisors. Provide daily support, coaching, and corrective action when needed. Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, ride-alongs, and performance reviews. Ensure team adherence to company policies, safety standards, and operational expectations. 2. Route Operations Management Coordinate daily routing, schedule changes, relief coverage, and emergency adjustments. Manage driver check-in and end-of-day procedures, including physical check-ins where applicable. Ensure all routes are completed efficiently, accurately, and within service model standards. Review and analyze route performance metrics (sales, spoilage, stales, service frequency, route times, shrink, etc.). 3. Vehicle, Fleet & Equipment Management Oversee and document vehicle inspections (daily/weekly). Report maintenance needs and ensure timely repairs. Manage SD card swaps and ensure telemetry compliance. Maintain clean, professional presentation of company vehicles. 4. Merchandising & Market Standards Ensure proper execution of Evergreen planograms and merchandising guidelines. Conduct regular photo reviews for micro market, vending, pantry, and OCS quality standards. Identify opportunities to improve product mix, par levels, and merchandising consistency. 5. Training & Development Lead onboarding and ongoing coaching of drivers, merchandisers, and supervisors. Deliver and maintain a structured training curriculum.
Ensure team understanding of:
Micro market servicing standards Vending machine accountability Pantry and OCS restocking Safety procedures and customer service expectations 6. Safety, Compliance & Accountability Enforce company safety policies and ensure team compliance. Conduct safety briefings, support incident investigations, and promote a safe working environment. Ensure proper use of PPE and safe lifting/driving practices. 7. Communication & Collaboration Maintain open, proactive communication with drivers before, during, and after route completion. Communicate changes in par levels, planograms, access issues, or customer-specific needs. Collaborate with warehouse, service, and operations leadership to resolve daily challenges. Send timely updates and relevant communications to the wider team. 8. Customer Service Excellence Support drivers in resolving customer concerns quickly and professionally. Conduct periodic site visits to maintain account satisfaction. Identify at-risk accounts and ensure proactive action plans.
Communication Skills:
To be successful, the Route Manager must maintain strong, consistent communication with all route team members throughout each service day.
This includes:
Pre-route discussions to identify issues, routing changes, or customer needs. Mid-day support for access issues, planogram adjustments, service escalations, or product shortages. Post-route feedback and coaching to improve accuracy, professionalism, and efficiency. The Route Manager must foster a positive, solution-oriented environment where drivers feel supported, accountable, and equipped to succeed. Qualifications (Recommended) 2-4 years of experience in route operations, logistics, or service-based leadership. Knowledge of micro markets, OCS, pantry, and vending operations (preferred). Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to analyze operational metrics and drive improvement. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Ability to lift 30-50 lbs and support field operations as needed. Physical & Work Environment A combination of office, warehouse, and in-field work. Frequent travel between customer sites and branch locations. Hands-on environment requiring flexibility and responsiveness.
