Landscape Maintenance Crew Leader Crew Chief 1 -
Hand-Clean Ditch and Trail Crew Location:

Schedule:
Monday - Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Pinellas County Government is currently hiring a Landscape Maintenance Crew Leader within Landscape Services, Stormwater & Vegetation Division. This is a working crew chief position responsible for leading a field crew assigned to maintenance activities along the Pinellas Trail, drainage ditches, rights-of-way, and other County-maintained areas. The position works alongside the crew while also providing daily direction, preparing vehicles and equipment, coordinating assigned work, documenting completed work, and helping ensure safe and efficient operations. Typical work may include hand-cleaning ditches, Pinellas Trail maintenance, litter and debris removal, spot tree trimming, minor vegetation maintenance, and support of drainage-related maintenance activities. What Would You Do? Lead and work alongside a crew performing landscape, trail, drainage, and right-of-way maintenance activities. Assist with daily crew assignments, vehicle preparation, equipment checks, and job-site setup. Perform and oversee hand-cleaning of ditches, litter and debris removal, Pinellas Trail maintenance, and spot vegetation maintenance. Operate chainsaws, hand tools, small equipment, and other related maintenance equipment. Help determine the level of service needed at assigned work sites. Read and interpret service requests, maps, diagrams, sketches, and work instructions. Maintain daily work logs and enter completed work into a tablet-based work management system. Promote safe work practices, proper equipment use, and compliance with County procedures. Respond to changing priorities, including reassignment to other crews or work areas as operational needs require. Assist during special events, emergency response, storm recovery, or disaster-related operations. Perform other related work as assigned or required. What Do you Need To Have? Two (2) years of public works, landscape maintenance, drainage maintenance, right-of-way maintenance, or related field maintenance experience, including lead worker responsibilities, supervision, or supervisory training; or An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
Additional Requirements:
Must obtain a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License Class B within one (1) year of hire. Must obtain Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) certification, formerly Maintenance of Traffic, within one (1) year of hire. This training is provided internally. Must obtain Best Management Practices certification within one (1) year of hire. Must be available to work a variety of schedules, including compulsory work periods during special, emergency, and/or disaster situations. Must be able to perform outdoor physical labor in Florida weather conditions. Must be able to safely operate tools, equipment, and vehicles used in field maintenance operations. Highly Desirable Preference may be given to candidates who possess: A valid Florida Commercial Driver's License Class B. Temporary Traffic Control certification (TTC). Best Management Practices certification. Experience leading a field crew in public works, landscape maintenance, drainage maintenance, trail maintenance, or right-of-way maintenance. Experience using tablets or computerized work management systems for daily work documentation. Chainsaw, small equipment, or vegetation maintenance experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The successful candidate should have the ability to: Lead, motivate, and work effectively with a field crew. Plan, organize, and complete daily maintenance assignments. Read and understand service requests, maps, diagrams, and sketches. Maintain accurate daily records and enter work activity into a tablet or work management system. Evaluate job sites and determine the appropriate level of service needed. Communicate clearly with supervisors, coworkers, and the public when needed. Use good judgment and follow safety procedures in active field environments. Adapt to changing priorities, emergency assignments, and reassignment between crews. Perform physical outdoor work, including walking, lifting, bending, trimming, cleaning, and debris removal.
