Job Description

Role Overview A Solar Roof Crew Lead is responsible for leading the rooftop portion of solar photovoltaic (PV) installations on residential and commercial properties. This role oversees the installation of racking systems, solar modules, and rooftop equipment while ensuring installations are completed safely, efficiently, and according to company standards and project designs. The Roof Crew Lead works closely with electricians, installers, and project managers to ensure each solar project is completed correctly and on schedule. Key Responsibilities Lead and coordinate the rooftop installation crew during solar installations Install solar racking systems, flashing, and mounting hardware according to manufacturer specifications Install solar modules and complete panel wiring on rooftops Ensure all rooftop installations follow system design plans and engineering specifications Identify rafters and properly secure mounting hardware to structural members Maintain proper roof penetrations, flashing, and waterproofing techniques Verify correct panel layout, spacing, and fire setback requirements according to code Coordinate with electricians to ensure proper conduit routing and equipment placement Ensure all rooftop wiring is properly secured and protected Conduct final rooftop quality checks before electrical commissioning Document installation progress and provide photos for project documentation Communicate any installation issues or site challenges to project management or engineering teams Ensure all crew members follow company safety policies and OSHA guidelines Properly use ladders, fall protection equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE) Train and mentor rooftop installers and ensure work is performed according to company standards Maintain tools, equipment, and materials needed for rooftop installations Verify rafter locations and mounting points before drilling roof penetrations Required Skills & Qualifications Experience installing residential or commercial solar photovoltaic (PV) systems Strong knowledge of solar racking systems and module installation practices Ability to read and follow solar installation plans and layouts Familiarity with roofing materials including asphalt shingles, metal roofs, and flat roofs Understanding of roof penetrations, flashing methods, and waterproofing best practices Knowledge of fire setback requirements and basic solar code requirements preferred Ability to lead a crew and coordinate installation tasks efficiently Strong attention to detail and commitment to installation quality Comfortable working at heights and performing rooftop construction work OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred Valid driver's license and clean driving record Ability to communicate effectively with crew members and supervisors Physical Requirements Ability to safely climb ladders and work on residential rooftops with varying pitches Ability to lift and carry solar panels, racking components, and equipment (up to 50 lbs) Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and perform physical construction work throughout the day Comfortable working in outdoor environments including heat, cold, and sun exposure Ability to safely use fall protection and other safety equipment when required

$25.00 - $30.00 per hour
