Job Title:
Crew Leader Job Description The Crew Leader oversees a small team of skilled millwrights and technicians while performing hands-on mechanical maintenance, welding, fabrication, and repair work on industrial equipment and conveyor systems. This role combines technical expertise with day-to-day leadership to ensure safe, efficient operation of machinery and completion of maintenance and installation tasks. Responsibilities Lead and supervise a crew of approximately four millwrights and technicians, providing direction, support, and guidance during daily operations. Plan, coordinate, and oversee mechanical maintenance and repair activities on industrial equipment, including furnaces, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, motors, chain drives, and conveyor systems. Perform welding and fabrication tasks, including MIG or stick welding, cutting, and torching, to repair or modify equipment and structures as needed. Carry out rigging activities to safely move, install, and position heavy machinery and components. Interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to install, repair, and maintain mechanical and basic electrical systems. Perform preventive maintenance on equipment to reduce downtime, extend asset life, and improve reliability. Troubleshoot mechanical and basic electrical issues on machinery and conveyor systems, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions. Use a wide range of hand and power tools in a safe and efficient manner to complete maintenance, repair, and installation tasks. Ensure all work follows safety procedures and best practices, promoting a strong safety culture within the crew. Collaborate with other maintenance and operations personnel to prioritize work, minimize production interruptions, and communicate equipment status. Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts used, as required by site procedures. Train, mentor, and support crew members to enhance their technical skills and promote consistent work quality. Essential Skills 2+ years of experience in a mechanical maintenance role such as millwright, welder/fabricator, or maintenance technician. Proven experience leading a crew or team in a maintenance or industrial environment, including team lead, supervisory, or management responsibilities. Strong welding skills with the ability to perform MIG or stick welding on industrial equipment and structures. Demonstrated experience with conveyor systems, including installation, maintenance, and repair. Hands-on experience with mechanical work, including repair and replacement of components on furnaces, hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, chains, and related systems. Proficiency in fabrication, including measuring, cutting, and assembling metal components. Rigging skills to safely lift, move, and position heavy equipment and materials. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings for mechanical and basic electrical systems. Experience performing preventive maintenance on industrial equipment to reduce downtime and improve reliability. Basic electrical knowledge related to industrial machinery maintenance. Skilled in the safe and effective use of hand and power tools for maintenance and repair tasks. Strong supervisory and communication skills to coordinate work, provide direction, and support a small crew. Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues and implement practical, timely solutions. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in an industrial environment performing installation and repair of mechanical systems. working with industrial furnaces, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and conveyor equipment. Experience in industrial fabrication and installation projects. Ability to organize and prioritize maintenance tasks in a fast-paced setting. Ownership of basic hand tools suitable for mechanical maintenance and repair work. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe work practices. Ability to work occasional weekends and adapt to changing priorities and schedules. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Jackson, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $58240.00- $66560.00/yr.
