This is accomplished by assigning crew members work assignments, supervising, inspecting, performing the maintenance of NRC turf, and supporting athletic events and activities at the NRC and various other facilities as well as safely operating turf equipment.
Note:
must be able to work nights and weekends to support park programs/special events as needed. This position also requires working in all kinds of weather conditions (extreme heat, cold, rain, etc.)
FLSA Status:
Non-Exempt Examples of Duties Performs, plans, organizes, coordinates, and supervises turf management operations at the NRC and oversees work of contractors in conjunction with Parks Facility Supervisor II for the NRC; Directs, instructs, and evaluates crew members' work; Ensures compliance with applicable safety, maintenance, and programming practices and standards; Coordinates responses to emergency calls and determines appropriate maintenance and repairs; Completes reports and inspections; Works with crew to maintain all turf at the NRC; Purchases, maintains, and manages; the inventory of turf maintenance equipment and supplies; Performs and supervises the conversion and protection of turf fields and grounds during special events, restoring complex damage by weather, use, or other conditions; Applies and logs the appropriate herbicides and pesticides for turf care of the complex; Manages and reviews irrigation system performance and initiates changes when necessary; Works sporting events and special events to prepare the facilities and supervise parks use; Processes work orders; Prepares receipts for procurement card reconciliation; Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED; and More than one year of experience in the maintenance of parks facilities and grounds or a related field. Some supervisory experience (preferred, not required) Turf management experience (preferred, not required) Desirable, but not required, qualifications include: Associate's degree in Turf Management, Horticulture, or related field
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
appropriate practices, methods, and techniques of turf management, pesticide application, and athletic field maintenance; the crafts and skills applicable to irrigation systems, turf equipment use, athletic field layout, landscape maintenance work, and any permits associated with this work; all equipment and specialized tools used in turf management, parks facility support, and safe equipment operation; costs projections of maintenance and repairs, supplies, and equipment related to turf management and grounds maintenance; standards of safe turf equipment operation; procurement procedures, payables, and reconciling credit cards.
Skilled in:
verbal and written communications; computer operations, including Microsoft Office products and work order software.
Ability to:
prepare and interpret written reports and impart them effectively; implement appropriate practices, methods, and techniques of operating heavy trucks, trailers, tractors, and commercial turf equipment maintain proper records; coordinate with public and private groups to develop partnerships; plan, assign, coordinate, supervise, and review the work of subordinate personnel; establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinate personnel, peers, representatives of other city departments, and the public. Special Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid, current North Carolina driver's license that is not revoked, suspended, or subject to limited restoration or conditional operation privileges and acceptable driving record. Must be able to work nights and weekends to support the activities of parks special events and programs as needed. This position requires working in all kinds of weather conditions (extreme heat, cold, rain, etc.) Holds or has the ability to obtain a NC pesticide applicators' license within first 6 months of employment.
