Crew Leader - Cemeteries

Under general supervision, performs semi-skilled work managing a crew in a variety of tasks relating to the operation of City-owned cemeteries; performs related work as required. Directs a work crew of 4 - 10 employees in performing routine grounds maintenance activities; responsible for locating and preparing gravesites for burials, at times under rigid time constraints; sets markers and monuments; assists office staff and customers with inquiries and cemetery-related concerns. This position requires daily direct contact with the general public and local service providers. A high school diploma or its equivalent; previous experience working in a cemetery or similar with increasing team lead/oversight responsibility is preferred. Must possess excellent customer service skills; demonstrate the ability to understand, follow and communicate oral and written instructions effectively; possess the ability to interpret and apply information using map coordinates and measurements; demonstrate a practical knowledge of the operation and upkeep of grounds maintenance equipment such as commercial mowers, weed-trimmer and blowers; possess a basic mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform preventive maintenance and make basic repairs to equipment.

Valid driver's license Within 1 year of hire: Valid Commercial driver's license

Note:

Failure to obtain the required CDL within the specified timeframe may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment. Possession of a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL); documented experience using a backhoe or similar earth-moving equipment in confined spaces; this position works alternating Monday-Friday, Tuesday- Saturday shifts and occasional holidays; an employee in this position is routinely exposed to outdoor working conditions. Occasional exposure to above-average and below-average seasonal temperatures as well as inclement weather should be expected.
