CDL Class A Lead Driver/Supervisor Speedy Cargo LLC is seeking a reliable, professional, and motivated CDL Class A Lead Driver/Supervisor to support our growing trucking operation. This position is designed for someone who is not only an experienced CDL driver, but also capable of taking on leadership, training, recruiting, scheduling, safety, and operational support responsibilities. This is a driver-based leadership position . The employee must be willing and able to perform on-the-road CDL driving work while also assisting management with hybrid administrative and supervisory duties when assigned. About the Role The CDL Class A Lead Driver/Supervisor will support daily operations by helping cover routes, train drivers, communicate with drivers, assist with recruiting, improve driver retention, support scheduling needs, and help maintain safety and performance standards. This role is ideal for a CDL driver who wants to grow into a leadership position and be more involved in the operational side of the business while still staying connected to the road. The position may include a combination of: CDL Class A driving assignments Driver training and coaching Driver recruiting support Driver check-ins and retention follow-up Safety communication and standard work reinforcement Scheduling support Remote or hybrid administrative tasks Yard or operational support with maintenance and inventory. Covering route or training on routes Key ResponsibilitiesDriving and Route Coverage Operate CDL Class A equipment safely and professionally. Cover assigned routes as needed by the company. Be available to support route coverage, training, recovery, or operational needs. Follow all DOT, FMCSA, company, and customer safety standards. Complete required pre-trip, post-trip, DVIR, and route-related documentation accurately. Maintain professional communication with dispatch, management, customers, and other drivers. Set a strong example for other drivers through safe driving, attendance, communication, and compliance. Driver Training and Safety Support Assist with onboarding and training new drivers. Help new drivers understand company expectations, safety standards, route procedures, communication requirements, and customer-specific processes. Coach drivers on safe driving habits, trip planning, time management, and professional conduct. Reinforce the importance of rest, proper planning, fuel management, phone readiness, and DOT compliance. Help identify drivers who may need additional coaching or support. Report recurring safety, compliance, or performance concerns to management. Driver Recruiting Support Assist with driver recruiting efforts, including candidate outreach, follow-up calls, interview coordination, and applicant communication. Help explain the role, expectations, schedule, and company standards to potential drivers. Support management in identifying qualified CDL candidates. Help improve hiring speed and communication with applicants. Provide feedback on candidate quality, availability, and readiness. Assist with recruiting follow-up to reduce candidate drop-off. Driver Retention and Communication Help build strong relationships with drivers by being a reliable point of contact. Check in with drivers regarding concerns, schedule issues, performance, and general support needs. Help identify why drivers may be unhappy, disengaged, or at risk of leaving. Escalate concerns to management before they become larger problems. Promote a respectful and team-oriented work environment. Help drivers understand company expectations while also making sure their concerns are communicated properly. Scheduling and Operations Support Assist with schedule planning, route coverage, driver availability tracking, and communication. Help management identify coverage gaps, call-outs, route conflicts, and staffing needs. Support day-to-day operational problem solving. Communicate schedule updates or changes to drivers when assigned. Help ensure drivers are properly informed and prepared for their assignments. Support dispatch and management with operational follow-up when needed. Assist with tracking attendance, reliability, and performance trends. Hybrid Administrative Duties When assigned, this position may include remote or hybrid work tasks such as: Calling drivers or applicants Following up with candidates Updating driver availability Helping with recruiting notes Assisting with training follow-up Supporting safety reminders Communicating schedule changes Reviewing driver concerns Helping prepare simple operational updates Supporting management with driver-related tasks Remote or hybrid work is based on company needs and available work. This is not a guaranteed work-from-home position. The primary function of this role remains CDL driving and operational support. What We Are Looking For We are looking for someone who is dependable, professional, organized, and comfortable being both a driver and a leader. The right person should be able to communicate clearly, hold drivers accountable respectfully, and help management solve daily operational problems.
A strong candidate will be:
A safe and experienced CDL Class A driver Reliable and consistent with attendance Comfortable speaking with drivers, applicants, dispatch, and management Able to train, coach, and guide other drivers Organized enough to assist with scheduling and follow-up Comfortable making phone calls and documenting updates Professional under pressure Willing to work on the road and support administrative tasks Interested in growing into a larger operations role over time Minimum Requirements Valid CDL Class A license Clean and safe driving habits Ability to meet DOT qualification requirements Ability to operate commercial vehicles safely Strong communication skills Ability to use phone, email, text, apps, and basic computer systems Ability to work independently and follow company instructions Willingness to perform both driving and leadership support duties Ability to coach and communicate with other drivers professionally Must be dependable and available based on operational needs Preferred Qualifications Prior lead driver, trainer, dispatcher, supervisor, or operations experience Experience with Amazon Freight, middle-mile, dedicated freight, or similar logistics operations Experience helping with driver recruiting or onboarding Experience training CDL drivers Strong understanding of DOT safety standards Familiarity with route planning, driver scheduling, and operational communication Comfortable working in a fast-paced trucking environment Work Environment This is a mixed role that may include time: On the road At the yard In company meetings or training On phone calls with drivers or applicants Working remotely on assigned administrative tasks Supporting dispatch or operations as needed The schedule and work duties may vary depending on business needs, driver coverage, hiring needs, training needs, and customer requirements. Physical and Job Requirements Ability to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle Ability to sit, drive, inspect equipment, climb in and out of trucks, and perform normal driver duties Ability to complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections Ability to communicate by phone, text, app, and email Ability to respond professionally during urgent operational situations Ability to manage multiple tasks when assigned Why Join Speedy Cargo LLC?
