06/12/2026 The Department of Public Safety, Driver Licensing Program, is looking for a professional, adaptable, customer service oriented individual to fill our Northeast Area Supervisor position. This is a full time position that oversees all driver exam stations and employees in the Northeast area of the state, remote managing is extensive. This includes directing the work of at least 10 employees, overseeing several field offices, interviewing and selection of staff, providing training, addressing disciplinary issues and completing performance evaluations. This position has substantial contact with the public, addresses customer complaints and conducts driver re-evaluation examinations on drivers who may no longer be safe to drive. Preparation and delivery of presentations/training in public forums and employee trainings will be required. There will be occasional overnight travel within the state and travel to out-of-state conferences. Candidates should have previous leadership or supervisory experience, good planning and organization skills, and work well as part of a team. For information on state employee benefits, click here. The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Knowledge of:
U.S. and international identification and licensing documents; federal and state commercial and non-commercial motor vehicle laws, rules, and regulations; department driver licensing policies and procedures; investigation techniques and common medical terminology; computer operations; effective methods of supervision.
Skill to:
Operate a motor vehicle.
Ability to:
supervise employees in central and remote locations; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public; lift and carry 60 to 70 pounds of equipment; employ effective positive persuasion techniques to obtain desired outcomes; organize multiple activities and meet deadlines; be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite; communicate information clearly and concisely; operate driver license processing equipment; remain calm during stressful situations and react to emergencies quickly. This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08. Successful applicant(s) will be required to undergo a background investigation. An arrest/conviction record will not necessarily bar employment.
