Job Description

Assistant Operations Manager - Position Summary The Assistant Operations Manager supports the daily transportation and fleet operations of the company to ensure safe, efficient, and profitable service. This role assists with driver management, dispatch coordination, customer service, fleet utilization, and operational performance while helping maintain compliance with company policies and transportation regulations. The Assistant Operations Manager works closely with drivers, dispatchers, maintenance personnel, and customers to support smooth day-to-day operations. Key Responsibilities Operations Support Assist in overseeing daily trucking and logistics operations. Support dispatch and load planning to maximize fleet efficiency and on-time delivery performance. Monitor driver schedules, equipment availability, and route coordination. Help ensure effective communication between drivers, dispatch, maintenance, and customers. Assist with resolving operational issues, service delays, and customer concerns. Driver & Fleet Management Support driver onboarding, scheduling, and performance management. Monitor driver attendance, productivity, and compliance with company policies. Assist in maintaining driver records and operational documentation. Coordinate with maintenance teams regarding equipment availability, repairs, and preventative maintenance schedules. Help manage trailer and tractor utilization to reduce downtime. Safety & Compliance Support compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), United States Department of Transportation (DOT), and company safety policies. Monitor Hours of Service (HOS) and Electronic Logging Device (ELD) compliance. Assist with accident reporting, incident investigations, and corrective action follow-up. Promote a strong safety culture among drivers and staff. Help prepare documentation for audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews. Customer Service & Communication Maintain positive relationships with customers, brokers, and vendors. Provide timely updates regarding shipment status and operational issues. Assist in handling customer complaints and service recovery efforts. Support efforts to improve customer satisfaction and retention. Reporting & Performance Monitoring Track key operational metrics including on-time delivery, fuel usage, driver productivity, and equipment utilization. Prepare operational reports and assist management with data analysis. Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost reduction. Support implementation of company operational initiatives and procedures. Qualifications 2-5 years of experience in trucking, logistics, dispatch, or transportation operations. Knowledge of trucking industry operations, routing, and fleet coordination. Familiarity with FMCSA and DOT regulations. Experience with transportation management systems (TMS), dispatch software, and ELD platforms preferred. Strong organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication and leadership skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and operational reporting tools.
