  • Full-time Job Overview Hills Flat Lumber is hiring a detail oriented and dependable Yard Supervisor to support our Grass Valley yard operations.
The Yard Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a lumberyard to ensure safe, efficient, and accurate receiving, storage, loading, and delivery of lumber and building materials. This role supervises yard personnel, coordinates workflow, maintains inventory accuracy, supports customer service, and enforces safety standards while helping the yard remain organized, productive, and responsive to business needs. Responsibilities
  • Supervise and direct daily yard operations, including receiving, storage, order pulling, loading, unloading, and deliveries and stocking of materials.
  • Lead, schedule, train, and support yard employees to meet productivity, quality, and service expectations.
  • Enforce company safety policies, proper material-handling procedures, PPE requirements, and equipment operating standards.
  • Conduct regular yard inspections to identify hazards, maintain housekeeping standards, and promote a safe work environment.
  • Monitor inventory levels, product locations, and stock accuracy; assist with cycle counts, receiving documentation, and discrepancy resolution.
  • Coordinate with sales, purchasing, dispatch, and delivery teams to prioritize orders and ensure on-time, accurate fulfillment.
  • Operate or oversee operation of yard equipment such as forklifts and coordinate routine maintenance or repairs.
  • Ensure lumber and building materials are stored, tagged, and rotated properly to minimize damage, shrinkage, and waste.
  • Assist customers and contractors with product pickup, order questions, and issue resolution in a professional manner.
  • Track yard performance, labor needs, equipment issues, and operational concerns, and communicate updates to management. Qualifications
  • Previous supervisory experience in a lumberyard, warehouse, building materials, or construction-related environment preferred.
  • Working knowledge of lumber products, building materials, inventory practices, and safe loading/unloading procedures.
  • Ability to lead teams, delegate tasks, manage priorities, and maintain accountability in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
  • Experience with forklifts, loaders, or similar material-handling equipment required; current or ability to obtain forklift certification preferred.
  • Certifications such as OSHA 10, forklift/operator certification, CDL, or first aid/CPR are preferred depending on yard operations and delivery requirements.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to use inventory, point-of-sale, or scheduling systems.
  • Understanding of workplace safety practices and applicable OSHA or local safety requirements.
Pay:
$19.00
