Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM•4:30 PM (or until work is complete) General Job Description Athens Paper is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Receiving Supervisor to join our Atlanta distribution team. The Receiving Supervisor oversees all inbound freight operations within the warehouse, ensuring shipments are received, inspected, and processed accurately and efficiently. This role leads the receiving team, coordinates dock activity, and maintains inventory integrity while enforcing safety and operational standards. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced warehouse environment, prioritizes safety and accuracy, and demonstrates a strong commitment to customer service and teamwork. Major Duties and Responsibilities Supervise and coordinate all warehouse receiving activities, including scheduling, unloading, and put-away Verify incoming shipments against purchase orders, packing slips, and bills of lading Identify, document, and resolve receiving discrepancies such as shortages, damages, or incorrect items Direct forklift operators and dock staff to ensure safe and efficient unloading of trucks Ensure all goods are properly labeled, scanned Maintain accurate inventory and assist with cycle counts and audits Communicate with carriers, drivers, and internal departments regarding delivery status and issues Enforce warehouse safety policies, including proper use of equipment and PPE Train, coach, and evaluate receiving team members to improve performance and accountability Monitor workflow and implement process improvements to reduce delays and errors Ensure dock areas remain clean, organized, and free of hazards Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required 3-5 years of warehouse experience, with 1-2 years in a leadership or supervisory role Experience with warehouse management systems (WMS) and inventory control Strong understanding of receiving, dock operations, and freight handling Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification Key Competencies Strong leadership and team management skills Attention to detail and high level of accuracy Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment Effective communication with team members, drivers, and vendors Problem-solving and decision-making skills Time management and ability to prioritize tasks Physical Requirements Warehouse environment with heavy equipment and moving machinery Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods Exposure to varying temperatures depending on facility conditions May require early morning, evening, or weekend shifts Benefits Competitive pay with reliable bi-weekly paychecks Medical, Dental, Vision, and Prescription Drug coverage (Eligibility begins on the first of the month following 30 days of employment) Paid vacation and paid holidays 401(k) retirement plan with company matching Health Savings Account (HSA) Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Career growth and promotion-from-within opportunities Flexible schedules available for select roles About Athens Paper Founded in 1952, Athens Paper is one of the largest privately owned distributors of paper, packaging, and wide-format products in the United States.
